“Wonderful!”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights in mid-April in the larger of the two rooms. Loved the walk-through shower (you can open the blinds on the nearby window and have a great view of the neighborhood!).

I can’t really offer any more to say that hasn’t been already captured in the write-up by the previous reviewer (malabarfly). I completely agree with everything he writes about Compagnons11.

If and/or when I return to Mons I would love to stay at Compagnons11 again! Fantastic place and fantastic hosts!

This bed and breakfast is in an old terraced house, conveniently situated in a narrow cobbled road only five minutes from the Grand Place and about ten minutes walk from the station, which is handy if arriving by train (it is not on a bus route so the only other option is a taxi). The house has been renovated to retain its historic charm and has an ‘arty’ feel about it, with pictures and sculptures dotted about. Francoise and Robert Menier are extremely welcoming and friendly hosts, eager to help in any way.

There are two guest bedrooms, both on the second floor. The one we occupied was spacious with a very comfortable bed and a huge adjoining bathroom that has both a bath and a walk through shower. The other bedroom is smaller (although still a good size), as is its bathroom, although it has a good view (our bigger room had a fixed glass panel window in the slanted roof, which was too high to offer a view, although we chose this room as we felt the lack of view was offset by the extra space in the room and bathroom).

Breakfast has a different and personalised touch, with plenty of mostly home made jams and preserves (including a chocolate spread), home made muesli, a variety of breads, yoghurt, cheese (including a bowl of cottage cheese) and some fresh fruit. There were even some walnuts from their own tree, and a few dried fruits and chocolates, and all laid out in artistic fashion on the large table in the modern kitchen that overlooks the attractive walled garden.

The only drawback is that it is not suitable for those with mobility problems as both guest bedrooms are on the top (second) floor, which means several flights of stairs. The other thing that is different is that the bed is not made each day, so don’t expect to come back in the evening and find it done for you. It may not be the norm, but it’s no great hardship.

All in all we thought it a great place to stay, and if we ever go back to Mons we will certainly stay at Campagnons

Highly recommended to anybody! Beautiful flat on three floors, with very original antique furniture and wooden floors. Huge bathroom annexed to the mauve room on the second floor. Extremely quiet, but very central, ideally located and with car space available on request. Beautiful kitchen with veranda and back garden, delicious and abundant breakfast. The owners are extremely kind, helpful and flexible, they'll surely make you feel at home!

Francoise and Robert were tremendous hosts, we were over to sort out accommodation for our daughter who has to attend the university for 6 months later in the year. We were not having a lot of luck and they put us in contact with two local friends who rented rooms to students. Both were very nice and now we have that sorted. The rooms were both very nice and eclectically decorated, you can tell that they are an artistic family. Beds comfortable, bathroom massive, didn't try the sauna as not enough time. The garden is a beauty, walled with a large pond, and tea outside was a treat. Breakfast was enjoyable with plenty of fresh local baked produce including the pistolee rolls which are only eaten at the weekend.

Mons itself is great town, with thriving bars and restaurants, we ate at Belge Pour Vous which was delightful. Found a bar playing live rock music after that and had the worst mojito of my life, my fault for not sticking to local beer!

All in all I can thoroughly recommend Compagnons11 and Francoise and Robert, we will stay again when we visit our daughter later on.

We opted for the Garden room and enjoyed the lovely view into the garden and to the roofs of the old town. The whole house is very elegant and tastefully furnished - congratulations to our hosts! Robert was very kind and talkative (his wife was away that day). Breakfast was very good and diversified, comprising bread, croissants, cheese, jam and honey, müsli, yogurt, fresh fruit... no eggs though but maybe we should have just asked.

One thing you should know in case you go there by car: it's a one way street and it becomes VERY narrow at the end. Exiting by car was a question of centimeters, so I recommend to park your car before and enter the street by foot.

This was the best B&B stay I've ever had. Thanks to the kind hospitality of Francoise and Robert, my girlfriend and I were made to feel at home. We came to watch the Paris-Roubaix cycling race and Robert, being a cycling nut gave us some great viewing tips, routes around the course and was kind enough to record the race for us to watch when we got back. They have a beautiful home, offer great wholesome breakfasts but best of all is the friendliness of the hosts. You'll have a great time if you choose to stay here.

Room Tip: The cote-jardin room has a beautiful view of the garden and the belfry. Nevertheless all the rooms...

What a lovely place! Our room was enormous, more like a suite than a room, and Robert and Francoise were delightful. They were even prepared to practise French with us (and this was very generous, given the state of our French), and they served us delicious breakfasts. They collect lovely artwork, which made it fell as if we were living in our private art gallery, and the B&B is well-located, being just a short walk from the Grand Place and a slightly longer walk to the railway station.

Mons is a really nice town. We'd especially recommend taking the bus out to Grand Hornu, to the art gallery and mining museum.
