Description: La Clef des Champs restaurant is one of Brussels’ favourites. Down a narrow street off the Place du Grand Sablon, in one of the city’s irresistibly charming districts, this intimate, romantic restaurant has a large terrace outside where, if weather permits, you can complete the illusion that you’re in the south of France. Run by the charming Bouillots, monsieur cooks and madame greets you at the door. This is authentic Lyonnais and Provencal cooking, changing seasonally. Try ravioli of crab in light curry sauce, cassoulette of ris de veau with port and mushroom jus, or enjoy a quite incredible cassoulet. The wine list includes some lesser-known labels that deserve discovery.

Have just returned from Brussels on a quick business trip and again enjoyed a superb meal at "La Clef". The quality of the food and the cuisine (bourgeoise in style) stands up to many of the so called pretentious "gourmet" establishments in Brussels (such as the "Comme Chez Soi, which is very highly touted and where you will pay two to three times as much than at La Clef). Having read a review here that favors the Belga Queen I think that it is important to know that serious gourmands or Bruxellois do not go to the Belga Queen for the food (which can be awful). One takes the tourists who are visiting Brussels to experience the neat decor and the fun atmosphere of the place. Sort of like going to the Skylon Tower in Niagara Falls or the Eiffel Tower restaurant in Paris. I can't imagine that La Clef Des Champs pretends to be the best of anything other than a very pleasant and sympathetic bistro that is blessed with a great chef. I for one would choose it over many other dining spots in Brussels for the simple reason that it is consistently appetizing, offers good value and excellent quality for what you pay and is charming and comfortable whether dining alone or with friends.

Very very nice restaurant with an excellent Menu, wonderful food and great service. Additionally, it is in a nice area with bars and restaurants. Make sure to have good shoes though as paved streets hurt. but excellent ambiance, decoration, food and customized service.

My son,who is currently working in Brussels, chose this restaurant as a treat for my wife and myself because it was the no 1 rated in your reviews.
The meal was pleasant but no more than that .We had the wine inclusive menu and that certainly was not good value. The only choice was red or white. My wife and I both had the fish option for the main course and this was quite nice but certainly not the best main course we had in our Belgian stay. The De Druyver in Bruge was much better and the Belga Queen in Ghent was possibly better still. My son,who is a gourmand, and has eaten at most of the toprated English restaurants, said the Belga Queen in Brussels was much better than La Clef de Champs as were several of the other Brussels restaurants he had visited

I had lunch in this restaurant yesterday and the food was really superb. During the week they have a great lunch deal where you can opt for three or two courses or just a main. I had a main course and a dessert and a bottle of water for 20euro. It was worth every penny. The service was spot on - friendly, efficient but not invasive. I will definitely go back again and would be happy to bring my hyper-critical father with me.

This is a small family run restaurant on a pedestrian street. It has a very warm, attractive decor, and Anna and her staff (mostly family) work hard to make you feel at home. (If you're from York, Pennsylvania, you might even get a hug and a kiss, but that's another story.) This was our favorite restaurant in Brussels. The coquille St. Jacques and the coq au vin were particularly good.
