“Charming neighborhood restaurant”
Reviewed September 2, 2012 via mobile

Very nice, small neighborhood Italian. No complicated dishes but simple with a lot of flavor and good ingredients.
We were three and it was a good thing we reserved a table as it very busy. Although this is usually a good sign and given the food it is normal, it slows down service. From my experience this is the only downside of this restaurant.
As a starter we had scalopse with mushrooms. The scalopse were perfectly cooked and the mushrooms were accompanied by an excellent balanced sauce that vaguely reminded at a vinaigrette. The touch of acidity of the sauce was not at all a problem it made the dish light.
Afterwards my father in law had a good pasta with garlic and tomatoes. The pasta was cooked as it should and even being in Brussels the tomatoes did contain flavor :-).
My wife and I choose a pizza which were properly prepared with nice THIN dough, that had been baked correctly.

The bill was not cheap but I can't say that it was expensive either considering the quality of the food. So probably this was the first but not the last time.

Thank bthijs

“Not so great”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

To be sure this is a very cosy niche and well-situated for those who live in the somewhat barren Sint-Gillis.

A disappointment, however, compared to fellow travellers' enthusiasms.

Gamberi al limone. We were warned that the plates were "very very hot". Well mine was hottish at one end but cold at the other. The prawns were on the leathery side and not as hot as they should have been. On the evidence I suspect that they had sat on a hot plate in the kitchen for a while but the hot plate was not so hot....flavour OK.

Saltimbocca......classically these are rolled layered with fresh sage leaf, proscuitto and then the veal escalope which is then tied before being cooked in the pan...these were flat and overcooked, the saltiness of the prosciutto thus coming out of the ham and being the predominant flavour, instead of fusing with the veal and sage if cooked in a rolled up fashion.

Oddly, served with spaghetti rather than a nice green salad.

We had nothing especially extravagant, but still €140 for three. Not, I think, great value for money.

Service? Slow and, Oh dear!, two more miserable waitresses it is difficult to imagine. As a result there was a sense of people getting a move-on and making a dash for the exit, so poor an atmosphere did they exude. A smile and perhaps a smidgen of human empathy works wonders. As it was, no tip.

The espresso was first class. Pity that it was difficult to enjoy, so great was the desire to leave the company of these two miserable serving girls....

“Cosy Neighbourhood Restaurant Serving Classic Delicious Italian Food”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

This is a typical little hidden away Brussels neighbourhood restaurant serving excellent Italian food. The pasta is hand-made and silky smooth. The portions are generous and the flavours are perfect. The service is friendly and helpful. It is small and intimate with a minimal decor. The emphasis is all on the excellent food.

“freshly made Zabaione just for you - can´t get that everywhere”
Reviewed June 28, 2012

my place for discovering Italian food in Brussels: a great variety of pasta dishes and risottos and for a change none of the usual suspects. every time al dente and succulent. with truffels, with sepia ink, with fish, with meat and NOT drowned in cream - just delicious! last time we ordered Zabaione for dessert because we saw everyone around us eat it. It came still warm and freshly whipped out of the kitchen. the place is fairly small and they crammed in the maximum amount of tables, so don´t expect too much privacy there. However, with all the candles and the relaxed, cheerful atmosphere it is still a great place for either a romantic dinner or with a group of friends. anything goes in that unique little place.

“Good Food”
Reviewed April 18, 2012

A little crowded, but worth the try. Either you have to go before 7:30 or after 9:30. We chose the later, but close to the hotel and they booked for us since we were late back. Good Food at a good price, but the place is good interesting not bad interesting, but nevertheless the only word I can think of that describes it is 'interesting'.
