“Someone told then they were good and they became lazy”
Reviewed July 6, 2014

We visited for lunch one day with a friend and me being Greek foodie I wanted to test this restaurant. In Greece there are Chefs that I adore such as Lefteris Lazarou, Dina Nikolaou, etc so I know what it takes to take tradition to a mind blow experience! Notos is far from being even close. First of all the Main Dish Menu: do not full yourself those are not Greek recipes not even close without using Greek classical ingredients, fishes, cheese, pastry etc. So we ordered the (minuscule) dishes that were close to Greek recipe: Shrimps saganaki (fried with tomato and feta cheese), Greek botarga spaghetti, Mackerel fillet in vine leaf, and the plate of first dishes. In the shrims there was no feta (at all but some flavoring instead), the Greek botarga came with tagliatelle stuck with each other with a sample of botarga, the mackerel was not memorable and the meats either. It was very disappointing. We had a very good house wine and a couple of very good deserts that somehow gave us this flash you want from this kind of experience. Overall, it was extremely discouraging as I would not regret if the prices did not make me regret this. On the top of it they do not accept all credit cards so prepare yourself with (loads) of cash. Just one point for all of you who want to taste Greek food: when they serve you in places small portions, those are mezes (such as tapas) and the prices are relative. But when you expect to have a 3 course meal and they serve you a meze size dish, and not tasty on the top of it - it is a guarantee of no return for me. Foreigners can "buy" this as Greek food, (as said above for Greek foodies) but I cannot be fooled. I am sorry that some of you think this as what is the Excellent Modern Greek cuisine (visit the restos or websites of the 2 chefs I mentioned above and you will understand the difference....)

“We love this restaurant but we were disappointed”
Reviewed July 3, 2014

The restaurant is usually very good, the chef and staff friendly and very flexible ( like creating a vegan 4 courses menu on the spot). This used to be one of my favorite restaurant in Brussels ( even though it is a bit expensive), but our last dining experience was disappointing.

We found a rubber band in the food, when we showed it to the waiter he said it was gruesome but didn't apologize nor come back with an explanation or else.

The rest of the meal was very good but I checked every bite to make sure it was ok.

I do think that when you aim to be a top restaurant, you better check for unwanted inorganic elements in your plates before sending it to the customers... At 100EUR per person, this is not acceptable.

“This is not a Greek gastronomy culinary experience”
Reviewed June 27, 2014

Greek culinary experience? Far from that. General impression is that the food is too flat to be a Greek memorable experience. And I am not talking about tons of spices but some at least. The meat balls were non - existent and sauces were tasting everything else than Greek. Where was the oregano, the thyme, the rosemary, the cumin, the parsley, the mint, the allspice - the later standard for beef meat prep in Greece. The food is served into significantly mini portions against mega prices. We tasted 8 dishes and on the top of all that the Greek ingredients were barely present in the recipes (feta, olive oil, olives, fish roe from Greece, wine leaves, etc). Where pasta or rice was served it was overcooked with loads of fat (not olive oil) loosing any subtlety of sauce. Finally the meat (flat - without any Greek flavors) rolled in aubergine slice and tomato sauce (flat too) was served with a basmati rice that overwhelmed the entire taste pallet and the nonexistent meat. On the contrary the deserts where heavenly made. Light, tasty, balanced, full flavour - perfect. As if another cook was in the kitchen. In short if you expect to taste the Greek essence of gastronomy this is definitely not the place to go in Brussels. Far from it. There are other Greek high cuisine restos in Brussels that will introduce you properly to the Greek cuisine.

“Sophisticated Greek fare”
Reviewed June 18, 2014

Excellent dining experience for fine Greek cuisine. I had the 42 Euro menu, which included a starter of various small dishes (octopus, artichoke, grilled peppers, etc), a main of wonderfully braised veal over a bed of pureed eggplant with a side of excellent rice with squid, and a light (and delicious!) yogurt based dessert served with candied fruit. Excellent service, artful presentation, reasonably priced wine list (we got a quite decent northern Greek Syrah-Merlot blend for 35 Euro).
