Description: The San Daniele restaurant in Brussels owes its name to the famous and traditional ham from San Daniele, a small village in Northeast Italy in the Friuli region between the Alps and the Adriatic. In this way the "San Daniele" Family wishes to underline the respect for the purest Italian culinary traditions that make its reputation. One son in the kitchen, one son in the cellar and the father in the dining room. This could be the simplistic picture of this transalpine establishment, nestled behind Koekelberg Cathedral. The simply elegant decor has been attractively updated, which only adds to the warm atmosphere of the restaurant, which has long held a place at the summit of Italian fine-dining. The chef uses high quality products in his dishes, which perpetuate the great Italian tradition, although French extravagancies are sometimes on the menu. Italian vintages have pride of place in the wine cellar. The Restaurant San Daniele, places at your disposal, its lounge and private dining room (to the 1st floor), adaptable to your needs. Perfect for all your private meals or business meetings. Available for 2 to 12 people., In complete tranquility. Discretion guaranteed. Information and booking by phone only

I had a few dinners at San Daniele and all of them turned to be excellent and amazing moments, far beyond any food I had so far. The Spinelli family runs this one-star place as great professionals and turn out dinner into a great experience, from service to food and wines. Franco is a magician, using the very best products to serve humble though exceptional dishes. I would certainly recommend tuna carpaccio, Saint-Jacques and Tuscan beef. Sea bass is the ultimate experience, served by Antonio and his fantastic stories. As for wines, trust Stefano's art to make the best selection for you. Last but not least: Francine is the nicest barmaid (and boss!) in town. Who runs the world? Grils!

We've been there on 3 occasions and every time it was incredible. OK, it's not cheap but it's worth it. We had trouble chosing every time, so we took the "menu de degustation" (price raised to 90 € recently) and never regretted it. Let the sommelier chose the wine : he won't take advantage ...

If you don't know the neighbourhood, park your car at the Basilica, it's easier.

We had lunch at this restaurant with the RestoDays campaign.
Definitely, some of the best Italian food that we had in Brussels, with simple ingredients presented in a imaginative way.
The service was up to standard and the seating was also excellent (we had a table just by the window to the small courtyard, which gave us privacy and natural light).
For parking (difficult in the area, especially at eating times), it is better to park at the Basilique parking.

A great place to eat in Brussels, keeping in mind that this is a Michelin-star restaurant and the prices are aligned.

Overall: 9/10

Went for a business lunch and opted for a la carte vitello ton. and seabass (for two). Both were excellent while traditional. Service was very good although quite formal. Ambiance is traditional. If you like traditional, high quality Italian food, then this is your pick. We paid 65 euros pp, including a glass of wine and green tea.

We had only two courses and the entire evening took 2 and a half hours. It took 55 minutes for us to get our second course (mains) while other tables were getting plate after plate after plate. I think we might have been the only table that didn't get the degustation menu so they either lost our main order or made us wait so they could serve the locals. Even our hotel bellmen/concierge were shocked that it took so long and acknowledged that this restaurant is typically slow but even they thought we waited too long. The Vitello tonato was delicious and the pastas were lovely. As a nice touch, the waiter offered to split our two pastas so we could each try both. The mains were a bit pedestrian and we've had better. Decent wine selection and the owner was quite helpful. Dress is casual. Note it is a good 15-20 min cab ride from the city (Grand Place area), costing about 15Euro each way. They are so far outside the main area that it took over 20 min for a taxi to collect us to go back to the hotel - so make sure to factor that in if you need one.
