“good for quick lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2014 via mobile

At least during the lunchtime it's just a Japanese bar, where one can eat fast and inexpensive. Incredibly popular - By 12:30 completely full. No surprise - where else in Brussels you pay less than EUR 20 for a reasonable Japanese lunch. Do not expect for this price a "culinary experience", though.

“Great japanese food, informal setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2014

Friendly, informal Japanese brasserie-type restaurant, with basic wooden tables and chairs, a nice warm interior, a small but busy feel, a beautiful long wooden bar and very tasty food! No sushi on the menu but plenty of sashimi, fried fish and vegetables and some very tasty skewered fish and meat. The service was efficient but friendly, especially the main waiter with his habit of shouting his greetings to every new arrival. Prices are not cheap but reasonable given the quality; the fixed menus were around 30-35€ and gave a good mix of different dishes. Booking in advance seems to be essential for dinner. We will certainly be back.

“Awesome little gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

Just make sure you get there between 12.00 and 12.30. Otherwise there will be just no place to sit!

Amazing bento boxes for lunch. You can also enjoy Okonomiyaki (!!!), a quite good Sashimi and yummy udon. All homemade and prepared in front of you!

“Excellent japanese”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2013

The first impression when you walk into this restaurant is that you are in the right place. It is normally packed with japenese people, which is obviously a very good sign. But the good signs do not stop here: the food is excellent, the service is nice and quick, the place is nice and casual. The menu offers a wide choice of food and you can enjoy it with japonese beer or sake (I don't think they have wine).
If you want to experience it on a Friday or Saturday, you better call and make a reservation or you won't find a table (also because the kitchen closes at 21:30). I like the gyoza, the tempura, the Katsudon and the sashimi (no sushi or maki available). Very good price/quality relationship. They offer vey good lunch menus.
This restaurant appers three times in Tripadvisor: as Izaka-Ya, as Izakaya and as Izak-Ya. This should be changed...
