“Eating with hands it's so funny and tasty!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

I had dinner few days ago and I really want to come back soon.
It's a nice place in the center of Brussels, the atmosphere is welcoming. The waiters explain how to eat as Ethiopian tradition. It's funny to eat by hands, the food is tasty. The portion of the menu of 20 euro that I took is enough. Prices aren't so good for the quantity but it's ok since it's in the center of tourism.

“Take a range of platters”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2013 via mobile

Kokob serves erhiopian style food that you eat with injera, small pancakes with a bit of a sour taste. They serve a whole variety of dishes, ranging from vegetarian to full on meat dishes. I recommend the meat in berbere sauce, it's a bit spicy but very tasty!

“Exotic, unique and unusual dining experience!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

We were in Brussels for just one day and found so many good reviews of this restaurant, we had to give it a try. The service was exceptional and the presentation of the meal along with the Ethiopian coffee after dinner was a one of a kind experience. If you like spicy, ethnic foods and are looking for a fun and different dining experience, we would recommend this place for sure. It would also be good for large groups, as the food is a designed for sharing.

“Great change of pace”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013

Go to Brussels on average 6 to 8 times a year on business and although the meetings are near the airport I try to stay downtown to sample the local restaurants. Some friends from Portugal suggested Kokob and we ended up having a very enjoyable evening away from the normal restaurants visited by tourists. Pros: good atmosphere and friendly waiters, we each ordered an entrée and tried each others selections I enjoyed each one. The waiter said that the entrée I selected was very spicy, but I didn’t really think so. Good for couples or friends just hanging out. Cons: really none, maybe a little hard to find since it’s not around the Grand Place.

“Thoroughly enjoyable!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

I visited Kokob with two friends back in May, we stayed in Brussels for three nights and decided to go for lunch shortly before our journey home. We had read a few mixed reviews on TripAdvisor but decided to take our chances since nobody had eaten Ethiopian food before and we were eager to try something new.

The vast majority of the reviews we read agreed that the food is excellent, with a few question marks surrounding the service. We were greeted warmly and our waiter was very attentive, the restaurant was fairly quiet at the time so perhaps the level of service varies, but we were certainly very happy with the way we were treated.

The waiter's explanation of a few Ethopian customs seemed genuinely enthusiastic, he caught me somewhat off guard when demonstrating the tradition of feeding somebody else before yourself - much to the amusement of my friends! The whole experience of eating without using cutlery was hugely enjoyable, if a little messy at first.

Having never tried the food before, we didn't have any expectations prior to the meal. This undoubtedly worked to our advantage as we were absolutely blown away - all of the dishes we tried were delicious. The coffee definitely did not disappoint either, I wouldn't recommend drinking any within a few hours of your intended bedtime though!

I'll leave it to connoisseurs of Ethiopian food to decide how Kokob stacks up against similar restaurants, but if ever you are in Brussels and want to experience a different way of eating then it is absolutely worth a visit.
