“Trendy bar turned into a loud tourist trap with lack of service”

Le Roi des Belges was one of the first bars that turned the St.-Géry area into a hipster area (together with bars as Mappa Mundo, Zebra and Pepe Café). Unfortunately those hay days are long gone. The bar is now a tourist trap and the interior doesn't fit its visitors at all. It took way too much time for the waiter to see us. When he brought our order he spilled the whole tray on my friends. He just mumbled foul words and didn't even excuse himself. After that we saw him passing by numerous times before bringing our order again. He immediately presented us with the bill (he didn't even suggest to pay for dry cleaning although my friend were covered in beer). He mumbled something arrogant (very difficult to understand with all the loud music). Our table was still covered in beer when he brought the drinks... I've been living in Brussels for over 10 years. Dear visitors, there are great bars to have a drink in Brussels, but it's certainly not Le Roi des Belges...

Good choice of beers and food. Friendly service. We have been there on several occasions, and think it is the best choice on the plaza

I went to this café with some friends, once in the evening, and then back for breakfast the following morning.
The place looked inviting, the beers were good, and the service was good. The music choice was good, and not too loud, so we could all hear ourselves talking.

We went back for breakfast, and again the quality of the food and drinks were good, and the service too. This time we could hear the chilled out sounds of Bob Marley wafting around us!
I’d go back here all the time if I lived in Brussels. I can easily recommend this place to others. Also, it’s just across the street from the awesome ‘café des Halles’

The food was bland, salad was a joke, quiche of a minimal size - all in all not worth even the reasonable price, and certainly not worth the long wait and complete lack of interest from the staff (the place is clearly understaffed, but still, please make an effort and have some manners...). To top it all off, we and some other clients waited about 15 minutes before someone could even be found to take our payment. Get lost!
