This belle certainly knows what to charge : once the bill reached EUR 235 for four persons, before dessert or coffee ( a demi-litre of Spa Reine costs EUR 4 ) we decided unilaterally that while they were dishing out the napkins a Bib Gourmand had mysteriously eluded us. You may say, take the menus at EUR 38 & 58 but la belle has thought of that too : she only allows this if the whole TABLE takes the menu in question. ( Elle est méchante.)
We booked several days in advance & passed by the day before to see that the reservation had been taken. We looked round at the tables & asked if we might have a table in the window. Our correspondent waved all this away, pointed to a long list of reservations for the evening, upon which our name appeared halfway down & said not without triumph Ah, Madame, Monsieur, there are all these people before you... we were so not warming to this place, We were shown the following night to a table in an upstairs room, bland & characterless but roomier than downstairs, where the atmo is, even if knees under chins.
The quality of the food is generally excellent if on the heavy side : over-creamy croquettes & heavy pâté. My marmite dès pêcheurs was very well-composed & nicely presented. My wife said she expected more of her waterzooi ( EUR 34 ).
Service : 2 waiters, attentive & eying tables but let down by slow kitchen - there was at least an hour's wait between starters & main courses.
Next time we're palely loitering in Brussels we won't be going here .
