Osteria Agricola Toscana (02.231 64 07). Location; near the metro stations of Maelbeek and Schuman on the site of the traditional former "Livingstone" café in the Maelbeek valley at 20, Avenue de Livingstone. Open Monday to Saturday (closed Saturday lunchtime)
This new restaurant (opened April 2014) has quickly proved very popular with Italians and other cognoscenti. Late on a Friday evening during the holiday period; despite it being the Belgian holiday period of July, the light and airy dining room was virtually full; we took the last unreserved table.
We each took the "basket" (about 20€), a selection of dishes which included a soup and a dessert and several dishes (5 or more) (which all seemed essentially vegetarian) which were either excellent or very good. The beverages choices were sufficient and we took a light dry bottle of Tuscan white wine (very good) and sparkling water.
An exceptional meal, with good friendly service: the staff speak, at least Italian, French and English.
Summer closure: 26 July to 20 August.
