Wonderful location. Convienient to mass transit as well as central sites (Grand Place, etc). The room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was a bit on the small side, but worked great. Breakfast was good (nothing special, about average continental breakfast). It is very good for price. Nothing luxurious, but very nice. I would definately stay here again on a visit to Brussels.

I've stayed at Downtown-BXL and La Casa-BXL, its sister B&B next door, several times during the past 5 years and have recommended it to many friends. The location is conveniently close to La Grand Place and the rooms are comfortable and thoughtfully furnished with a hip designer's eye. They offer a range of room types from bedrooms to larger studios, apartments, and suites. The rooms are anything but spartan since they all have seating areas and artwork in addition to TV, DVD player and ensuite bathrooms. The larger units have their own kitchens that contain everything one would need for a longer stay. Breakfast in the common dining room consisted of breads, yogurts, fruit, cheeses, cold meats, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and juices.

The B&B is about a 5-10 minute walk from La Grand Place. The neighborhood has a number of small shops, cafes and nightclubs, predominantly catering to a gay crowd, so it can be on the lively side at night. This could be a drawback if you need absolute quiet to sleep. The windows do keep out a lot of noise but may not be sufficient for some people. Another thing to be aware of is this is an old building that has no elevator, and the stairs to the upper floors can be daunting. This is not a facility for anyone who has limited mobility.

The proprietors and their staff are very accommodating and friendly. During our latest trip, we were offered a small studio on an upper floor during the reservation process. I had been joking with the owners before our arrival about how we had climbed all the steps at Sacre Coeur in Paris in preparation for the stairs up to the studio. Upon our arrival, we were told we were being upgraded to a much larger apartment at the top of the adjacent building for the same cost as a smaller studio. We were very happy and relieved to find the owners were just teasing us and the apartment was only one flight of stairs up from the ground floor. And that apartment was very, very nice.

All in all, this is a wonderful place to stay and an excellent value. Its unique interior design and personable staff make this a standout experience. I highly recommend Downtown-BXL.

Just back from an 8 night stay in Downtown BXL and cant recommend it highly enough. We were staying in room 2, the Marilyn room, which was very large and ultra comfortable.Breakfast is a great feast to start the day, with lots of breads, cheeses, charcuterie etc. The stairs are a work of art in their own right, but if you have mobility issues may not be for you. As mentioned by other reviewers, the B&B is located in the gay district and there are also many cafes and restaurants on the street so the noise may put some off but the atmosphere of the area is great. Top location also, everything is within walking distance, and there's a metro stop outside the door for the lazy days. We found a great cafe called Rachels just a few doors down who have amazing bagels and hundreds of varieties of tea like Dancing Queen and Tokyo Boy. There is also a great bar next door called Lambic Moeder where "Beer is the Answer". All in all a great place in a great location, not overly touristy and a real home away from home. Will definitely be back.

Great location: walkable distance to almost all sights within the historical town centre; 10 minutes walk to the Central train station

The rooms are clean, spacious and stylishly designed.

There is ensuite bathroom and free WIFI at every room.

The breakfast included is nicely served with fresh juice, coffee/tea, bread, jam, chocolate spread and yogurt.

The staff are helpful (willing to bring up/down your luggage through the stairs at your arrival/departure), though they are rarely seen in the building at other times. But the help for the luggage is very good already)

BXL-downtown is located on a street where there are cafes and restaurants. So you might have to bear with the noise they made on the street late at night. I stayed on the 1st floor, but I manage to sleep after a long day walk in the city anyway.

I'll go back to BXL-Downtown again, if i'll go back to Brussels again.

Fantastic location which is a couple of minutes walk from Grand Place and is also in the gay district right next to Macho Sauna.
The room was huge, i stayed on 2nd floor which had a round bed and is one of the best nights sleep i've ever - it's like your own apartments in the heart of the city!

I stayed when the World Cup was happening and Belgium seemed to be supporting anyone and everyone so it was probably noisier than normal but there is some street noise as expected.

My only "negative" comment would be with regards to the bathroom, the shower was incredibly small! However the good thing was because i didnt want breakfast i saved 4 Euro's and i'm glad i had this option - would definitely stay again!

I dealt with David on the booking. He is fast response and nice guy.

This B&B is in good location, close to Brussels Central train stn and walking distance to most of the major attractions. We got the penthouse. Except the steep climb with our heavy luggages, everything else is good! The room is cozy and well decorated. The shower and toilet are clean. And the best of all is wifi is incl. They serve good breakfast too. They have freshly squeezed orange juice. There are cheese and hams to go with a selection of bread too.

Some ppl may find it is a bit noisy with window's open but it is tolerable to us. 2 things to note, there is no one at the reception most of the time except during breaky and you are req to make appointment for check-in. And they charged extra eur10 if you only stay 1 night.

Our room was quite large and comfortable (though we had to carry our luggage up some steep, narrow stairs to get there). Despite lively nightlife practically right outside our window, the room was relatively quiet. Good continental breakfast. Good location.
