Plumped for this restaurant from the dozens lining the narrow streets for no particular reason - and wasn't disappointed. Fairly large bowl of mussels (with whatever sauce you like) for 16-19 Euros, about average - but then so was the service and quality of food. Not sure there's much to choose between any of the options along this busy, touristy street.

We only went here as our preference (Vincents) was full and we were hungry. It is set amongst all the other restaurants near the Grand Place where you get hassled every few yards. I had a very mediocre steak with what was supposed to be a pepper sauce but was some milky liquid with a peppercorn in it. The restaurant was not particularly clean, particularly when you look behind the bar and the toilets stank with no water flowing into the urinals at all.

Avoid..go to Vincents if that is full go further afield.

We had lunch at Le Bourgeois while taking in the Grand Plaza. We chose it not because of any recommendations or lofty reputation; simply, they had tables and it was 2 Euros cheaper than all of the other restaurants that looked the same and sported the same fare.

All and all, it was a pleasant experience. The place was clean, and, for 10 Euros a person, we got a beer, a bowl of mussels and a small steak. The mussels were well-cleaned, and nicely prepared, while the steak was a good piece of meat served with a solid bearnaise sauce. Fries came with both dishes, and we left filled at a good price. By the way, it's cash only.

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by Le Bourgeois. Although it no doubt caters to tourists looking for an easy meal, the food and service were perfectly fine. Good meal at a good price.

Very average food for the price (25 euro each). We were given tomato soup that tasted fishy, a slice of lasagne as big as your finger (tasted good but far too small) and a burnt inedible waffle. Asked for tap water and given bottled water and charged twice for it! Avoid at all costs!

In Brussels on business and travelling alone, I ate at Le Bourgeois after visiting the Christmas market. It's in a street filled with restaurants all trying very hard to entice people in - I chose it because it didn't have a tout outside, and because it had free WiFi. The WiFi is not brilliant (only certain tables have decent data speed) but the moules frites were excellent, the service friendly but not overbearing and the price reasonable given the location right in the tourist area.
