Owner description: The BELvue is the no. 1 museum for learning about Belgium and its history. Fully renovated in 2016, the museum sheds light on Belgium via seven contemporary themes and a gallery of 200 Belgian objects. Combining a strong exhibition design with artful displays and a gallery full of surprising objects, the BELvue showcases Belgium's history with a contemporary twist. Located in a magnificent eighteenth-century building adjoining the Royal Palace, the museum immerses you in Belgium, with all the fascinating aspects it entails. It's Belgian culture in the broadest sense of the term!

Covers the history of Belgium from its foundation right. through to the present day, everything is numbered and you get a leaflet in English describing everything in the museum. €5 entrance or free with the Brussels card well worth it if you want to learn more about Belgium and its former colony The Congo.

Makes history that I probably thought was boring in high school interesting, in telling the history of Belgium in relation to the Netherlands/rest of Europe (which I barely remembered anything about). Could be a bit more user-friendly; some of the photographs/displays didn't match up perfectly with the guide you are given when you enter. Definitely gives a good context in which to view Belgium today, having learned about its history- although a bit more info on before 1830 and after 2005 would be nice (they have this cool map that goes over the developments in Europe since 1000 or so, but a bit more info on what Belgium was before it gained independence in 1830 would be helpful).

We spent a couple of hours here - very interesting exhibition about the history and development of Belgium from 1830 to the present day. Lots of exhibits and displays - well worth going.

I loved visiting this museum in March. I knew almost nothing about the history of the entire benelux area, so found this very engaging and the exhibition to be just the right length. I bought tickets for the Coudenberg archaeological site too, which was interested yet deserted! A little erie in all the labyrinths but very interesting. Would recommend to all.

If you are interested in Belgian history since 1830, this is the place to go. But only if you don't know anything about it yet. Otherwise you probably would be disappointed. Found it strange that the "story" stops in 2005. Also, I could not find anything about King Albert II and his regency of the last 20 years.
