“Musee du Tram”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

This is an excellent museum to visit. Very easy to get to by public transport, Metro and then regular service tram to the museum (No.39 or 44) from Montgomery. Entrance to the museum is very reasonable which also includes rides on the vintage trams which go onto the main network of Brussels! Inside the museum is a collection of Belgium trams from horse drawn to trolley bus type, mainly Brussels trams. There is also an old taxi at the back of the museum. There is no café at the museum which is a shame, as it would do well. However, across the road (over the bridge) is a park with 2 cafe's in it. The times of opening are 13:00 - 19:00 Saturday and Sundays only (April to October). There is a website for the museum which is also in English. Well worth a visit. I will be going again soon!

“Historic Tram Tour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2013

As a lifelong tram fan, I always enjoy riding on them, particularly if they are old. The superb Brussels Tram Museum has a magnificent collection of former town and country trams. A highlight of any visit is the opportunity to ride on one. On most weekends, they operate short rides out to Tervuren, but each Sunday there is one full tour of the city. This 4-hour ride is excellent value (Euro 15) and covers a fascinating series of attractions old and new throughout the city - pausing at various points of interest.

Depending on which Sunday you choose, the commentary is either in French or Dutch. We had a French crew and understood some of the commentary but we missed many salient points. This was our fault, of course, for not speaking the language, but a type-written sheet with a map and brief summary of the sites in English would assist many tourist, not just the English.

However, potential passengers need to note that, during the four hours, there is only a 30-minute stop at Heysel stadium terminus which has only one automatic sliding door-style toilet which was totally inadequate for a group of twenty eight. Also, there are no cafes or shops to get any refreshments so take some drinks/snacks with you. (They are missing a trick by not having an on-board fridge from which to sell water etc). Also, even though the Atomium is listed as a feature at Heysel, you can only just see the top of it beyond the buildings and trees and it's impossible to get nearer to it in the time available.

However, this was an excellent ride as long as you take drinks/snacks and have a strong bladder!

“See the old trams”

Large collection of public transport but the best thing is you can travel on either old trams or buses around the area and see how it was 50 years ago
