“The green longue of Brussels”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

There are various nice trails to follow in this beaufiful forest. Very nice to walk, jog or cycle, and even horseback ride. Just be respectful of the others. Also dog-friendly.

“An Oasis of Trees right next to Brussels”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2012

The Sonian Forest (Zoniënwoud in Dutch) is a stunning forest to the south-east of Brussels. On foot, it is so big you can actually easily get lost in it, despite the occasional maps with You Are Here indicators. The forest is famous for its cathedral-like areas populated with majestic beeches. The forest feels almost like unspoilt, virgin forest, but it's actually mostly the result of large-scale planting of trees over a hundred years ago. Nevertheless, the presence of deer and other wildlife is enough to give it its unique wild character. The contrast with nearby Brussels couldn't be bigger, yet there's a convenient Brussels tramline which can drop you off on the Northern edge of the forest.

“Great wide European forest”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2012

Spent a couple of hours trail running. It's a beautiful forest with lots of each rolling hills. My map was very valuable as it has many trails.

Worthwhile trip and time if you are in Brussels.

“The lungs of Brussels”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2012

Beautiful and enormous forest with great access for bikes, walkers, runners, horse riders, scout groups etc. Lots of well marked paths but still easy to get lost (pleasantly!). Dog s must be kept on leads even here which is a great shame (unless of course they have a tendancy ti disappear after some deer which is I guess why the requirement is in place)
