“Cool quirky hotel with a few extra touches”
Reviewed March 20, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here over New Years, first room was very cool with nice high ceilings but unfortunately someone had removed the blinds so we asked to be moved. Although they were apologetic and gave us a bottle of wine they said there was nothing they could do till the next day (it was 6pm). The next day we moved rooms and this room wasn't as nice.
Hotel is an ok location in between the Eurostar station and the main town.
I did like the happy hour in the evening where you would be given drinks and snacks.

This is a pleasant enough hotel in a great location. You are within walking distance of most everything and because it is set a bit away from the main street it is fairly quiet. The rooms are small but well equipped and the bed is very comfortable. My only two criticisms are the lack of a bin in the bathroom and that the only full length mirror is inside a wardrobe that you cannot open all the way to use without rearranging the furniture. The breakfast was nice as they offered eggs, bacon, sausage, a selection of meats and cheeses, fresh bread, pastries, dried cereals and yogurt, with coffee, tea and juice to drink. The neighbourhood looks rough with all the graffiti and trash but it is quite safe and we walked everywhere without a problem. Oh, a word of warning, check-in is at 3pm, no exceptions, they will let you leave your luggage in the lobby but will not give you a room until 3, so plan accordingly. Also, there is a wonderful restaurant right next door, Café Bebo that is open late and has a great service, food and beer selection.

Room Tip: the rooms ending in a 1 are right across from the elevator, avoid those if you can.

This is a very good boutique hotel, with beautiful decoration in a great location and the rooms are well done and comfortable. However, my experience started very bad. What are some of the worst things that can happen to you, when you check in at a hotel?? 1. That they send you to your room and there are people occupying the room.... or 2. That you arrive to the hotel and the hotel is overbooked. Well, Both things happened to me at the Sandton Pillows on my visit. We arrived close to midnight and were promptly checked in and sent to room 409, When we opened the door of the room, we saw the bed undone and quickly realized there were some legs on the bed!!!! There were people already sleeping in the room. Fortunately, they did not wake up. ((((( We came back to the lobby and apparently the frontdesk person had realized the mistake, because he was frantically calling his manager to decide what to do. To make the story short, they sent us to another hotel for the night (a lower quality hotel.) and asked us to come back the following morning. I have to add that it took them 30 minutes to find us a taxi to take us to the other hotel. A terrible start to a visit. and something that a good "Hotel Management System" should avoid. One thing to add, Management did not feel quite worried about this. I have been in situations in which a mistake of the reservation is offset by an upgrade or similar. Nothing happened in this case.
I have to say that the hotel is really good, the lobby bar is very inviting (however it closes earlier for alcoholic drinks) and the whole environment is very nice.

Room Tip: Best rooms are on the 5th floor, as they have "Slanted rooms on the ceiling."

for its price and size this is a very pleasant hotel to stay in. it is close to the city centre ( a 10 min stroll on the flat). it is a bit quirky but only a little (i would say it certainly adds to the charm). it is very much suited to guests who have somthing else to do in Brussels, such as sight seeing or business, as the hotel is a little compact. the bar, rooms and breakfast area are on the small side. that said they are all still very good. the staff (particularly sebastian in the bar ) are very helpfull. we arrived early and our room was ready ( they even gave us a drink on the house while susan at the front desk checked if it was ready! the location is good as it is close to the city centre, however the bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity are limited (there are plenty about though.) we found our room very quiet and the bed excellent. the room was a bit small but very well equiped, (though no trouser press) and the bathroom very good. i tried to book directly with the hotel but (as is so often the case) it is cheaper to book online.Peter I might try you directly the next time! this is my 6th visit to Brussels and my first hotel review (I should review the poor hotels I know) I have written. the Pillows is the best I have stayed in. i will be back

Room Tip: the hotel is very close to anneessens metro station (which the hotel website does not say). this mak...

This must be a pretty new hotal, because if you go on Google street view it isnt there, just a run down old building. But location is ok, on a nice square and they have done a good job with the renovation.
First impressions are very good and modern. I quite like the reception where you sit down to check in, which is different.
The rooms are very nice, high ceilings and modern decor. Its very clean. Bathroom was a bit small but it had a separate toilet.
Just a few quirky things. Firstly the shower, it belts out water straight at the small gap in the shower door, so a pool of water on the floor seems unavoidable. The flow from the shower is good and the temperature stable, but the shower temperature seems to have a max set lower than I normally like. Above a certain point, turning the dial further doesnt increase the temp (Eco-setting?), so I couldnt get it as hot as I would like.
The bathroom and toilet have 'eco friendly' lighting on a motion sensor in the ceiling that is set a bit agressively. So stay still for too long and there is a blackout. So prepare to wave you hands above your head if you need more than a quick visit to the toilet!

Dear Mike,

First of all thanks for having stayed in our beautiful hotel and of course this nice and usefull comments.

We are not aware that one of the showers is not getting hot enough. We care about our environment (for example: the hotel collects warm shower water to pre-heat the cold water and we collect rain water to flush toilets), but we do not make any consessions on the confort in the room. Your shower should have been hot.

We checked all rooms, but did not discover any errors. Could you please mail me the room number, also for the shower door?

Dear Mike, thanks once more. We hope that you will choose us again for your next stay in Brussels. For your reservation, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

Friendly regards,

Peter

i stayed here after meetings and with an early train to London the next morning. the location is great for the Eurostar, it is an easy 10-15 minute walk away. the staff were nice and friendly. there is a decent bar in the reception area which was open until after midnight for post-work drinks, and the bar staff were friendly and provided decent snacks.
as many of reviews note, the decor is a bit different, but i thought it worked, and was a nice change from some of the drab interiors you get in many Brussels business hotels. my room was nice, although relatively small and simple. the bed was quite good and i slept well.
my main fault was with the breakfast, which was not included in the price, and which was absurdly overpriced for what it was. the food was ok, but for that kind of money i could have gone to a nice cafe anywhere in the city and had the same food at a fraction of the price.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your stay in our hotel and your comments about the hotel and it's area.

It is nice to hear that you appreciated the bar and the style.

About breakfast: we offer a full warm and cold buffet breakfast from 15€ if you reserve upon check-in or 20€ when you walk in. Compared with other 4* hotels this a very competitive rate and we are convinced that it's very good value for the money.

For your next stay in Brussels please do not hesitate to contact us direcly or via our own website. It will be our pleasure to host you again!

Friendly regards,
