We passed this restaurant at lunchtime and were offered a free glass of wine, so we said we'd come back for an evening meal, which, unfortunately, we did. The tables on each side of us were presented with free wine, so when the bill came we queried why we were being charged for our wine. The waiter initially claimed that the guests on the tables each side of us were school friends, which was why they had got free drinks! Finally, when we insisted, he said we would have to talk to the 'barker' who was the one making promises out front, and we explained to him that we were due two free drinks. He was incredibly aggressive and started shouting at my daughter in full view of the restaurant, shaking his finger in her face and leaning in really close to her, which was extremely threatening. He claimed he had already called the police and we said we would welcome them sorting this out, although I am sure they have rather more important things to do on a Friday night. I reiterated that I was of course willing to pay, but not for the free drinks, and had my credit card in my hand the whole time but he wouldn't take it. The barker told me to go with him to the back of the restaurant (away from witnesses?) which I wouldn't do as he was frighteningly hostile and finally, with the whole restaurant watching the spectacle, the owner came over, took my credit card and took payment for the meal minus the free drinks. As we left, the barker yelled at my daughter, "Go f*** yourself". A horrific experience. I wouldn't wonder that most people would pay up out of sheer fear.
