“Tourist trap restaurants”
Review of Rue des Bouchers

Rue des Bouchers
Reviewed August 28, 2010

The rue des Bouchers is a narrow, historic little street just off the Grand Place. It is lined with restaurants. Apart from Aux Armes, most of these restaurants are decidedly second rate and unduly expensive. If you want to end up with overpriced paella you have been warned! The waiters frequently harass passers by into trying their restaurant, which rapidly becomes very annoying. In short, the street is picturesque and (just about) worth walking down - but don't be tempted by the harassing waiters. You can always take refuge in the Galeries Royales St-Hubert, then go to eat in one of the (much better) restaurants in Place Ste Catherine.

The Rue des Bouchers is an acknowleged tourist trap, but if you're in the center of Brussel, you can't miss it. The waiters are aggressive and amusing. Don't be fooled by the beautiful seafood displays outside some of the cafes; The two best places to eat are Chez Leon and Aux Armes. I didn't eat on the Rue des Bouchers often, but I found myself gravitating toward it every day just because it is colorful and fun. Mmm... mussels and frites!

VAvoid Rue des Bouchers at all cost. Me and my partner went into one of the restaurant at the very end of the street after being hassled by loads of waiters. Watch out for a guy with black rim glasses. He told us that are meal would be 36 Euros and we would get free desert for both of us. The champagne was not even genuine and had some red liquid init to make it look pink!!
When the bill came it was 93 Euros we complained that this was wrong and they started to get very aggressive and said we had to pay. I then said to call the police and then they tried to add other things on the bill. In the end we paid 70 Euros for paella. I was outraged. We would never ever go into one of those restaurants again. I think Rue des boucher in a nice place to walk down but please do not eat there the food is poor quality and over priced you have been warned.

If you look to the right … there’s a restaurant … if you look to the left … another restaurant … restaurants everywhere! I guess they maybe opened all year because we had dinner in a restaurant on that street at 24th December.
