“School trip with 45 students”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

Very nicely renovated and now suited to the 21st century tourist. This is largest remaining part of the second wall that surrounded the city.

“14th century 'Chateau' in striking distance from Gare du midi”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

I walk past this place all the time and it looks eery but beautiful early in the morning or late at night when lit up.Great combination with Marolles flea market, not least because this place is open on a Sunday. After lots of anticipation it did not disappoint. There are great views from the ramparts across the city and up to St Gilles town hall so good for photography in the right light.

This is not a castle but an old gateway to the city but has had various incarnations as a granary store, prison and hospital. Good option if you have 2 hours to kill before the Eurostar.

This area is fine BTW- don't believe the hype

“Unpleasant service”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

The person at the entrance selling tickets and (supposedly) giving information at the entrance refused to do the least effort to make himself clear in anything but French.

“Great history, best if someone speaks French”
Reviewed May 27, 2012 via mobile

My family loves historical spots and they found the original drawbridge mechanisms and hole for the portaculis interesting. Loved the knights outfits, enjoyed the displays as we climbed up to the top for a view of the city threw arrow slits. Our limitation is only our 8yo who loses interest quickly.

“breathtaking”

Loving place for us to finish our holiday before booking the train home. Great tour with all the info you need and no one to bother you. Great small eating house opposite serving really good belgium food and very popular with the local so must be good.
