Its a great museum to visit. Yes tons of it is devoted to dinosaurs (alot of the ones found nearby in a cole mine) but the museum has floors of other great things. I was particullarly fond of the huge skeletal replicas from the sea section of the museum. I went with a few friends and a younger child. Went early in the AM and it was pretty empty till 11am when alot of families with smaller stroller bound children arrived. Just sitting back and watching youll see tons of kids literally running from one dinosaur to the next.
I will always recommend this place if in Brussels even if your not the museum type. Everyone enjoys a good dinosaur exhibit.

This is a must see when in Brussels! The Dinosaur exhibit (the largest in Europe - accoridng to the website) was phenomenal. It seems to have been recently redone, and is very modern - moving towards showing the bones with smaller models rather than large-scale models/replicas of the dinosaurs.

Take the time to read through the panels, it's fascinating! The beginning of the exhibition discusses the evolution of the planet, and changes to plant and animal life. We wondered if the Iguanodons on display were cast models or real fossils ( there were 30 nearly complete skeletons found in Belgium). Most of the Ignanodon displays are set up as bipeds (on 2 legs), but according to the displays, they've since been discovered to be quadruped (4 legs), who run on 2 legs. The bones are too fragile to re-position them, showing that they are real bones. (How neat!).

Also, when leaving the main dinosaur room, check out the painting of their original assembly (near the mammoth skeleton).

Adult tickets are 7 euro (7.50 with the special exhibit). I thought this was a very reasonable price.

This musem has +/-30 real dinosaurs in display from the Bernissart cole mines, excavated over more than 100 years ago but still in magnificent conditions.
Ideal to do with kids. Beside dinosaurs, you also wil find minerals from all over the world, stuffed animals, sea shells and temporary shows.
Difficult to park in the neighbourhood when coming by car! Not so far from the EU parlement.
Looking forward to the refurbishment that's ongoing in one part of the museum.

This was our first stop on our trip to Brussels. We had driven for 6 hours and I knew the kids (4 years old and 20 months old) needed to get out and do something fun. The exhibit was great and it was a huge open space so the kids could run from one place to the next. This museum is responsible for my girls new found interest in dinosaurs.

We loved this museum - SO many things to see! The halls of dinosaurs and whales were incredibly impressive, and there were a lot of interactive exhibits for the kids. In fact, the museum was swarming with incredibly happy looking kids (and it was interesting for adults, too)! Most displays were in French, Flemish, English, and German so most visitors could read or hear in native languages.
