“Great traditional Belgium bar”

A great little place in the centre of Brussels, hidden down a little alley. It's one of the oldest pubs in Belgium dating back to 1877, with a traditional wooden decor. There a wide variety of beers, specialising in lambic and fruit beers (though admittedly I had wine, so something for everyone!). There was a good atmosphere and I would defiantly recommend taking friends here to visit a traditional Belgian bar.

Our first try of lambic beers and fruit based beers. The beer came in traditional little stoneware jugs.
the bar is tucked away down a little passage and is easy to miss

Believe it, I've done it many times: I've taken people here that did not like beer, and this place was the test. The Lambic Doux is the old traditionally brewed Lambic beer (no fizz, as in the really old days) a bit like a cider but it’s beer. Many I've taken have started drinking beer after this. Especially nice with the local specialty: ne tartinne mè plattekeis (a thick slice of rustic bread with fresh cream cheese, topped with radish and onion). An ‘ancient’ marriage between beer and bread. Try it!

You come here for three reasons: one is the ambiance, an old wood paneled bistro which has been run by the same family for ever. The second reason is the beer. Lots of different and unusual kinds, served by the caraffe! The third is the unusual food: how often do you get to taste pig head fractals pressed into a huge sausage and thinly sliced to your plate? Not to be recommended if you are on a diet but definitely not to be missed especially if you have visitors from abroad and want them to have a taste of good old fashioned Belgian fare! Friendly service and reasonable prices.

They have Timmerman's beers, and a few other things. The ambiance is nice with an old French bistro feelings, worn wood paneling and narrow tables. The service was friendly. This is an option for a cheap meal of pasta in a neighborhood where dining can be expensive, but go to the Delirium Cafe for beer after eating.
