“A must stop for traditional hearty food from Belgium”

You come here for three reasons: one is the ambiance, an old wood paneled bistro which has been run by the same family for ever. The second reason is the beer. Lots of different and unusual kinds, served by the caraffe! The third is the unusual food: how often do you get to taste pig head fractals pressed into a huge sausage and thinly sliced to your plate? Not to be recommended if you are on a diet but definitely not to be missed especially if you have visitors from abroad and want them to have a taste of good old fashioned Belgian fare! Friendly service and reasonable prices.

They have Timmerman's beers, and a few other things. The ambiance is nice with an old French bistro feelings, worn wood paneling and narrow tables. The service was friendly. This is an option for a cheap meal of pasta in a neighborhood where dining can be expensive, but go to the Delirium Cafe for beer after eating.

Stumbling into a dark back alley in Brussels on a rainy March night was not what I had in mind. But as this place had been highly recommended to us by the concierge at the hotel who was obviously an avid beer-drinker herself, we felt almost obliged. We did well not to miss the place, even once we were in the alley, but the smell of gorgeous homemade belgian beer must have led us into the right establishment.

As we entered, the decor was old fashioned, and the customers even more so. They looked as if they hadn't left the place in years... and who could blame them? The menu proved cryptic, even to virtual beer connesieurs such as ourselves, so we decided (between the 4 of us) to order 2 different beers. "The white one" for 3 of us and "the faro" for one. The barman proceeded to produce two earthenware jugs. One was a bit bigger than you would expect to serve one. The other was massive - identically decorated, but supersized to the first. The four of us watched in disbelief as the most authentic belgian-beer-drinking experience of our lives unfolded before us.

Having visited a few other taverns prior to this one, I wondered whether I was in too much of a daze to have taken in the experience (as above described) as acurately as I remembered it. But the others later reassured me that we had all experienced the same... and that every trip hereafter to Brussels would be highlighted by several visits to this absolute gem of a pub.

And if you are reading this review in preparation for your own trip to Brussels, you MUST visit this place. And do let us know what you think of it.
