The Cathedral is beautiful you can see the various time periods of work right away with the windows. We happened in on a Sunday morning and caught the last mass of the day by chance. It was beautiful, a lone celloist playing on a small stage facing the alter. The sun happened thru a window and lit him up like a spotlight on a soloist in an orchestra. Both the priest and the cantor had wonderful singing voices. The female cantor's voice was operatic and the acoustics were fabulous. Even though the mass was in french it was still easy for us to follow. We noticed quite a few none catholics enjoying it as well because the music and singing were so beautiful. As soon as mass was over the rest of the cathedral was opened to tour and photograph. Wonderful pieces of art. Definately a must see no matter what faith you practice. Small 2 euro fee to see the crypts otherwise the visit is free.

Cathedral is about 10 minutes walk from Grand Place and is worthwhile the visit.
Not the biggest cathedral I have seen and somehow modestly decorated, there are many beautiful stained-glass windows and huge organ that looks quite modern. The most impressive window is above the entrance completed in 1528 and inspired by Renaissance by unknown authors.
Cathedral is build on foundations of the romanesque church from 1047.
A new stone altar was installed in 2000 and is made of three-ton monolith of light granite and is very beautiful and mysterious. It was created by the sculptor Michel Smolders.
Cathedral has a very special atmosphere, the nave is narrow and ceilings very high, build according the Gothics style.
There is no fee and services are run on Sunday morning.

St Michael and St Gudula is the Central catholic church in Brussels. It is a large and beautiful structure, although not exceptional compared to many other cathedrals in Europe. Many fine stained-glass windows and a finely carved pulpit. When we visited on a Friday afternoon, there were no admission fees (except for a small museum and archeological display) or lines.

a must visit if your in Belgium...perched up on a hill this cathedral looks majestic. (get ready for a good walk and quite a few steps to be climbed to get to the entrance) the interiors are breath taking...high ceilings...huge piano all the works of a 15th century structure. as i sat there i could only imagine all the generation this church walls had witnessed.
