Very beautiful and nice cathedral. Looks like many other Gothic cathedrals but with its own charm and style.

Another huge and wonderful building in Brussels. It is interesting to follow something about its history and construction.

Saints-Michel et Gudule (Saint Michael is the patron saint of Brussels, and Gudule a minor local saint) is a Gothic cathedral not unlike scores of them in Western Europe, with an architectural history ranging from the 10th to the 15th century. The outside view is impressive (in spite of various urbanists' and real estate developers' efforts to grab another valuable plot in the banking district, the space in front of the main façade has been left open and has become a tourist attraction in its own right, especially since a bust of the late King Baudouin has been placed there), while the inside is not particularly inspiring: for beautiful stained-glass windows, walk up to the Notre Dame du Sablon. But with a bit of luck, you will be able to attend an organ concert in the evening : there is a large modern, state-of-the art organ in the nave and a smaller one in the choir, both of which yield excellent sound, and are staffed by talented musicians or played by guest musicians. Recitals are free or open for an altogether affordable fee. And with a bit of music to inspire, the place suddenly becomes even more beautiful.

A short walk from the square takes you to this lovely Cathedral. If Brussels is your first or only stop in Belgium then don't miss this. I had just spent a month in Gent and was somewhat "churched out"!

Fascinating architecture and history. Enjoyed the stained glass, gothic features and organ music. Very interesting.
