Sorry Switzerland, but the best chocolates in the world are in Belgium. The best known ones are of course Neuhaus and Godiva, but there are some unbelievable chocolate artisans in Brussels. Three are found in the lovely elegant neighborhood of Sablon on the hill about the Central Station: Pierre Marcolini, Wittamer, and Laurent Gerbaud. The first two are shops. Marcolini's chocolates are delicious but his salespeople are unfriendly and no photos are allowed. At Wittamer the salespeople are very helpful and the chocolates scrumptious. There is a tearoom next door too; it's a place to be seen in this fashionable neighborhood. A block beyond uphill is Laurent Gerbaud. He is omnipresent, charming, and gladly gives suggestions. His shop has a cafe incorporated and you can watch him and his team make chocolates. His ginger, fig, and dried apricot chocolates not to mention his truffles are to-die-for.

Great and beautiful chocolates. And original.
Excellent one with ginger, exploding in the mouth.
Very smart Christmas chocolates, with that extra touch (and taste).
Definitely worth a visit.

To be in Brussels and not to test chocolate is absolutely impossible. At our last day we need to bay some presents from Brussels and want to have a cup of tea (or coffee) in the right place. It was Sunday and only museums, chocolate shops and some cafes and restaurants were opened. We visited Museum, then different chocolate shops and decided to find a place for our last cup of tea in Brussels. It is very difficult to choose – a lot of cafes around you, but we want to visit something special. And Laurent Gerbaud Chocolatier is just this place. It is a chocolate shop with small café. Coffee (for me) and tea (for my friend) with a nice cake with raspberries were excellent. We try different chocolate candies and they were extraordinary! And what a pleasant smell – you can watch for processes for making chocolate. I remember this perfect place.
