Was looking for somewhere to eat "off the beaten track." This corner restaurant looked like nothing special, but I found out the food was very good, and presented especially well (see photo). Being on a corner, lots of people to watch go by, was on the west side, so got the setting sun on my side. Ordered a few Jacks & Coke, then a steak meal, which was better than expected. My small table was set with a place mat, napkins and cutlery. The amount of food was more than expected. The meal was better than what I received at the restaurants just off the grand place. Highly recommend for level of service and food.

A not overly pretentious and not overly expensive place, where you can expect a decent meal for a reasonable 30/40 Euros depending on your appetite. Goof filet americain (seasoned raw beef), inexpensive oysters in season, all the classic Belgian dishes with plenty of frites and all the favourite ice creams.

Not the meal of a lifetime, but a lifetime worth of meals, as this is a place to go back to when you are not feeling adventurous. Just be careful of the crowds, it does get very full at times with groups of tourists just back from the Grande Place, and at such times of course the service suffers and the quality of the food can be a bit more ordinary.

While walking around Brussels, and wanting to avoid all the completely touristy places near Grand Place we stumbled upon Le Grand Cafe. All we were looking for was a beer or coffee and ended up staying for des Gaufres salles, which are potato waffles. Beer prices are fine, they match with almost everywhere else and there is a good selection. The food was very nice, hot, fresh and we found to be very inquest flavours. At 12€ each, they were less expensive then the mussels, and from what we saw, more filling. Staff was very pleasant and it's a great place for people watching.

We decided to visit Le Grand cafe as it was just round the corner from our accommodation. On entering we found the place very quiet and not many people were about apart from a few locals. The waiters were very friendly and some could speak English. My group ordered the spaghetti Bolognese, lasagne and steak and chips. Food arrived fairly quickly but it was worth the wait. It was sublime and cooked to perfection. The only negative was the steak had been a bit more well done than medium. It wasn't till about 8pm that it started getting busy. Had to wait a bit for bill but overall a lovely evening.

My husband and I had dinner at Le Grand Cafe on 6/21/13 and we both had the pork shanks. Mine was in a mild but flavorful mustard sauce and my husbands was plain. We had the mashed potatoes (which had been browned under a broiler) and the sauerkraut which was very good. The shanks were huge, very tender and really good. It was a cool evening and we sat at one the many tables outdoors. The food arrived very hot, including very hot plates! The location is the best to "people watch". Our waiter (and we don't know his name) went out of his way to help us with translation and explaining the menu selections. He spoke limited English, but we were able to understand each other. We had a very good meal and the beer was a great compliment to the pork. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting downtown Brussels.
