Owner description: This is not a museum in the traditional sense: the museum itself is actually the house that Victor Horta built for himself in the late 1890s, which truly exemplifies the Art Nouveau style that made Horta into one of the most acclaimed architects in Belgium.

Art Nouveau is one of my favourite forms of design and architecture and I never get enough. This "museum" that was the house of the architect Victor Horta designed for himself to live in, is a spectacular example of Art Nouveau design throughout the building.

Horta house is a crazy (in a good way) example of Art Nouveau. A one of a kind place which one must see to believe the level of detail that Victor Horta went to create this stunning plane. I would recommend anyone with or without interest in art to go and see Horta House.

I have been to this museum three times and this is a gem of a museum to see. The furnishings, the architecture, the concept of open spaces, curves and lighting are quite amazing. I always allow about 2-3 hours to look through the place. It is on Rue Americaine and the tram stops at the end of the street, about 300 feet 100 meters away. You have to leave all your bags there at the concierge and pick them up on the way out. Loo is in the basement well hidden so ask for directions. There are many souvenirs in the shop but they are a bit pricy. When you are outside just look at the design and craftsmanship. Quite outstanding work. You will be impressed.

A bit out of center Horta Museum is a beautifull example of pure secession at its best. It is open only in the afternoons ( better chack the hours before you go ) and gets crowded but it's worth a visit if you are not a graet fan of history of architecture or design.
The only pitty is you are not allowed to carry any camera with you.
Lots of steep and nerrow stairs ( and no elevator ) may be a problem for elder or disabled people.

If you're into fancy design make a detour out to this house which isn't really a museum. If you are staying in Louise or Ixelles district it should be quite accessible by bus/tram.
