“A good afternoon”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2012

Lots of information about Africa, with Pottery, stuffed animals although not really my cup of tea as rather old fashioned and Colonial for my liking. Think other Museums do a far better job of showing what life was like back then but also bringing it up to speed. Glad we went but would not go again.

“An accurate depiction of Belgium and Central Africa”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2012

Very interesting exhibits of the wildlife found in Africa, including insects. Some of the museum is interactive. The culture of Central Africa is also expressed through displays with photos, instruments, and pipes, clothing, etc. What we found very interesting was the section on the history of Belgium's involvement and mistreatment of the people of the Congo. This is a somewhat new admission as my Belgian friends who are in their 50s have said there was nothing of the mistreatment of the people of Congo it their history books growing up. They are still dismayed about the actions of the Belgium government.

“Not to Miss”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2012

A great setting in Tervuren, and at the time we went a large and dated but very interesting collection. Closed now for a two-year renovation (sorely needed). We had the fortune to visit when the basement was open, showing off all the stored "stuff" that has no room in the many collections. Beautiful older building. Easy to park. Nice grounds.

“Out of the Ark but a fascinating testimony of the past”

This is an amazing place with an incredible building with lots of paternalistic statues of the age. There are some very interesting exhibitions but it will be closed soon for a complete refurbishment.
