“Very accomodating, centrally located, and reasonably priced.”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

My wife, daughter, and I recently spent 5 days in Brussels, and we were very happy with the staff and accomodations at the Atlas Hotel. We found each and every member of the front desk staff to be very friendly, and extremely helpful both in providing general information about Brussels, but also in helping to make arrangements with local restaurants and taxi services. In addition to a room that was more than big enough for the three of us (a rarity in many European hotels), the hotel provided a complimentary breakfast everyday and outstanding internet connectivity (again, not always guaranteed in other hotels). The only real negative was that first impressions were somewhat questionable ... much of Brussels is under construction, and the building directly across the street was almost completely covered in scaffolding. Combined with the fact that our taxi had driven us to the hotel along a route that took us through some of the more questionable areas of the city, we weren't exactly sure what we had gotten ourselves into. However, over the five days, we had only positive experiences at the hotel and in the surrounding sections of the city. Thanks to the staff at the Atlas for an enjoyable stay.

I was a bit worried about "average" reviews about the hotel and was considering other options, but now I'm happy I did not change. Yes, it is a budget hotel, no luxury, but perfect for a short city trip, where you just need clean room, good location, comfortable bed, free wi-fi and good breakfast. First, location is really good - all historical centre sightseeing at a walking distance and Metro close by. It turned to be a great advantage as all public transport network in Brussels was paralysed during my stay following an attack on a staff member. Few restaurants nearby and all historic center's ones at walking distance. Hotel is not new but very well maintained and very clean. Room and bathroom are spacious, bed very comfortable (with additional pillows and blanket available). There is a small seating area and workdesk in a room, a kettle and a minibar. Free wi-fi, good speed and good signal in a room. Soap and shower gel/shampoo and a bathtube in the bathroom. My room was warm and quiet, you can also open the window. Breakfast was very good - actually I'm surprized to see the reviews blaming poor breakfast. I'm travelling a lot and believe me, the quality and choice is outstanding for 3-star hotel in Continental Europe. There are: cereals, yoghurt, toasts, croissants and other bread and pastries, boiled eggs, cold cuts, small salad bar, mayonnaise, jams and honey, tinned and fresh fruits, juices, coffee and teas. What else do you need to start your day, not to mention it is included in the price unlike other hotels? I don't usually deal with staff a lot, but I agreed with other reviews - lady in the morning is very nice and helpful, and guy in the afternoon is not that much. I paid a weekend price which is excellent value for money. Overall it was an very pleasant stay and I would definitely recomment and go back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a yard view to have it quiet.

I stayed at Hotel Atlas for three nights over Easter. I had picked it based on price and location in the center of Brussels. And indeed Hotel Atlas is conveniently located on a quiet plaza just 300m west of "Bourse" the stock-exchange, and within walking diststance of many attractions such as Grand Place and Manneken Pis.
My room was spaceous and quiet, facing the rear of the building. It had plenty of storage space, fridge, flat-screen tv, a safe-deposit box. Beds were comfortable and adequate for a 190cm guy like me. Bathroom was small but still had a tub. Apart form some very minor wear and tear, everything was well maintained and clean.
Breakfast buffet offered a basic variety of foods and beverages. Nothing fancy but fully satisfying, especially since it was included in the room rate and not an extra charge.
Staff were friendly and helpful...more or less, depending on the time of day/night. Daytime crew was great...very friendly and knowledgeable. The nighttime guy...not so much. Over all I enjoyed my stay, and I would definitely choose Hotel Atlas again next time I am in Brussels.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the rear of the building.

The hotel is in a good location (within walking distance of the Bourse) but unless you get a good price, there are a number of things to factor in.

The morning staff were friendly and professional. It can't be said the same about the afternoon/evening staff.

The coffee and tea making facility could do with improvement; ceramic cups instead of plastic, more coffee sachets and maybe more than one type of tea.
The bedroom and bathroom were clean. The breakfast was good (cereals, meats, cheese, fruit, croissants).
There's a cafe down the street to the right on the left (Cafe Markt??) if you're in need of coffee, and there's a bakery when you turn right out the hotel and then a right past a fish restaurant on a corner. There are a couple of bars to the right of the hotel.

Sleep quality was ok; the room was on the street side and there was a bit of noise later on in the night (as is the norm in city). Bed was comfortable.

My first impact with the hotel was a bit odd: I was welcomed by the dull gaze of the concierge who was busy picking his nose. Not the best of greetings ... Anyway, the staff on morning shift when I checked out was much more professional and nicer, it has to be said.
I was assigned a room at the ground level, which was spacious, but it also had a kitchen. Which is good if you plan to stay a week or so, but I was there just for one night and for business. The problem is that, probably because of the kitchen, there was a lingering smell of food in the room which was not really nice at all.
The furniture and fittings were oldish, but in good conditions.
Overall, I would not recommend this hotel for a business trip, but my experience may have been biased by the reception and by the particular room I was assigned.

Room Tip: Probably top floors rooms are better.

I have stayed in this hotel for at least three times before doing this review. I thought after the third time I would have a better feeling of the hotel, but what I am writing now I could have written the first time. The hotel is located very close to the Bourse, close also to a large variety of restaurants, cafés and at least two stations of the metro (subway). It is also in walking distance of the Grand Place (no more than 10 minutes). The staff of the hotel is nice and helpful, although I noticed that there are substantial differences from one member of the staff to another in terms of behavior and costumer orientation. Some are really nice, eager to help and others are much more reserved and not so communicative. When you do the check in the staff at the reception usually provides you with a map and a sheet with a username and password for free wireless, which is a must for people traveling on business like I was. The connection is also stable and speedy, notwithstanding the floor in which the room is located. The rooms are relatively spacious, clean, the bed was always comfortable, and it was quiet at night. The bathroom is also clean. The only drawback of the hotel may be the breakfast that could have a bit more offering in terms of food. Some bacon and scrambled eggs would be nice to have for a start. In sum, this is a well located, convenient and comfortable hotel to stay in Brussels. I highly recommend it!
