Le Dome Hotel

Dating from 1902, this attractive Art Nouveau hotel would have looked across the square to Brussels Nord station before that station was relocated northwards following completion of the Nord-Midi link in 1952. Today it still enjoys a good location, just a few metres from the Boulevard Adolphe Max exit from Rogier metro station, in a bustling area with loads of bars and restaurants. My room was spacious if a little dated, and warm in the chilly November weather. And it wasn't too expensive either (by Brussels standards anyway).

The hotel has a very good location - near train station, metro stop and business centre. The staff was friendly and everyrhing was clean. But rooms facing the street are really noisy and everything is quite worn. Breakfast was also quite poor and scrambled eggs were seriuosly undercooked.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not have windows facing the street.

There should be no excuses: this hotel is in a grand old building and is well located in a key area of Brussels. It is opposite the Sheraton, close to the business centre and a metro stop is right outside. Ok, so its an older place and you expect it to be a bit shabby, but my room was something out of the 80's and possibly older. It was small, the bed sagged and the TV was ancient. I had to hoist my luggage up a couple of steps to get access to the room, which had a small window overlooking the backs of other buildings. Probably not much you could do about that, granted, but a small refurbishment of the room would go a long way. My colleague had a room overlooking the street, complete with balcony, that was much larger and very much nicer - so its possible for travellers to have a nicer overall experience than mine!
All travellers appreciate a complementary breakfast, but this one was so basic as to not warrant trying it. Again, a little would go a long way.
I have no idea of the business model of this hotel, but can only speculate that its operating on a 'bare bones' policy whilst redevelopment funds are sought. If and when they eventually do up the hotel le dome, it should be an absolute cracker. It has all the hallmarks of being a great boutique hotel. However, for families and business travellers at the moment, there are plenty of other hotels in Brussels that will be more suitable if you arent on a budget. For budget travellers, this hotel is fine - actually better than fine because of its great central location. For all travellers, be aware that traffic and parking are nightmarish in Brussels. There is a carpark across the road that we found reasonably convenient, but its a couple of hundred metres walk.

Room Tip: Ask for a large room. If noise isnt an issue, ask for one with a blacony overlooking the street

The staff was very helpful, that's the best there is. The next good thing - it is very central and clean. Yes, it has seen better days, but - the rooms are spacious and not all of them are facing the noisy big street. But, on the other hand - the noise is quite impressive, you can hardly sleep at night ( because you must have the windows open - is is too hot if you keep them shut). The beds and the matrasses are far too soft... suitable for the North Pole.
Breakfast....well....if you search very hard you can find some natural things too...otherwise everything seems to be artificial - the omlette from egg powder(?); honey tastes only sugar; milk seems too blue to be true... No, definately, the breakfast gets 2 points out of 10.
To sum it up - the hotel is OK for a short stay if you are on a business and the only thing you need - a bed to fall into after a day of hard work. NOT FOR HOLIDAYS.

hotel was old and a bit tired. I stayed at the newer one , and I was given a room facing the street. The noise kept me up all night. Fridge was making weird noises and breakfast was poor.

if you have the option to stay somewhere else, do it

staff was great!

Stayed here on business. The staff members were friendly and the breakfast was fine. Unfortunately the hotel is in pretty dire need of some upgrades. It felt as though the entire place was outfitted decades ago and nothing has ever been upgraded. Everything was clean, it just looked old. The doors to the rooms are not particularly strong nor secure. If you are traveling for business and the place you need to go is nearby, this place will do for a night or two, but if you're traveling to Brussels for pleasure for several days, I'd look for something else.

First of all, one should be advised that there are two hotel le Dome, 50 meters apart. One is the vaguely art nuveaux in the picture, the other is more modern, and they are ran by the same management. One should try to understand where he will be staying.

i was at the newest one, and this also, in a way, is two different hotels: the one facing the main street and the one not facing it. The first is to avoid at all cost: the windows are thin and the noise unbelievable at all times of day and night. The second is nice and comfortable.

I happened to be on a road-side room and when I complained, the desk personnel (very professional and well mannered, btw), regretted that they didn't have a different room for that night, but would had worked on it. The day after, i left my luggage ready to be moved and in the evening I was in a cozy, but comfortable room for the rest of my staying.

For the rest, the position is very good, metro right in front of the hotel (one change at art loi to go to the Eu quartier), the breakfast nice (with real, fresh, orange juice, a rarity) and a couple of restaurants at hand. Wi-Fi may be a problem depending on the room.

Assuming one is certain to be going to a non road-facing room, a nice hotel.

Room Tip: ALWAYS demand a room not facing the main street. If not, be sure to pack good ear-plugs.
