“Very Nice and Comfortable - Great Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

I recently spent 3 days on a business event at the Royal Windsor - I found it to be a very nice and comfortable hotel with a calm and relaxed ambience - unlike many other large Brussels hotels it did not suffer from too much hussle and activity - the bedroom room was nice - on the small side - but with a very comfortable bed and all together the Hotel's service and hygiene standards seemed very good - I also ate in the restaurant on a few occasions and found the food and service to be very good - no complaints at all. It was altogether a very pleasant stay and I would be happy to stay there again.

As other reviewers have commented in terms of location it is superb for Brussels - you are literally a minute walk from the famous Grand Place and the associated shops and superb restaurants - so it is great for people on a leisure trip.

I was on a business trip and believe we had a good deal but was advised that the hotel can be normally expensive - but on my experience they delivered a very good experience.

We stayed here for a long weekend city break. The first thing I would say is its in a great location, a short walk of a couple of minutes through the park from the train station. It is just 5 mins walk to the main square so again very convenient.

Check in was prompt and our room was a fair size as well as clean and tidy.

We immediately found the bar attached to the hotel at the rear that leads on to a street filled with bars and restaurants. The staff and service were excellent and of course the beer as you would expect from Belgium.

The breakfast was delightful, the cost of it was not as it was an added extra and was higher than expected. It is however a good hot and cold selection and delicious food to set you up for the day.

The staff were adequate and efficient when needed but none stood out.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend to those looking for a city base.

Prior to booking the Marriott hotel I contacted the Royal Windsor Hotel in Brussels by e-mail to check for their best prices for the same weekend. I received an e-mail back with the prices they were offering. As it was the New Year weekend, I only responded to them by telephoning the hotel a few days later on 03rd January. I spoke to a lady on the phone and she was quite abrupt to me; I explained about the prices given to me by e-mail, but I was informed that they were not valid, despite me having the email in front of me at the time. I pointed out that the prices on the email actually matched those on Expedia (about 40 Euros cheaper that the hotel’s own price). The lady informed me that the lower price was not on Expedia –but it was! Right there on my screen! I was a bit disappointed at the reaction from the Royal Windsor Hotel, and the effective accusation that I was not talking the truth. Not quite the five star service you would expect – and that was even before arriving. Anyway, the Marriott Hotel was booked instead!
Luckily for us, we found a great hotel in Brussels where we stayed for our weekend. I would recommend the Brussels Marriott with its friendly staff who were always willing to assist. I would definitely not recommend the Royal Windsor for a stay in Brussels just because of the poor first impressions I got. I believe your first contact with a hotel makes all the difference, and from it you gain an idea of the level of service they are offering.

Dear alainLondon44,

Thank you for sharing with us your experience of first contact with the hotel.

We sincerely regret what may have appeared to be the abrupt manner when seeking clarification on a rate discrepancy between different website.

Rest assured that we strive to extend the most helpful and friendly contact when calling the hotel in various languages and in presenting our best available rate, which is also available on our website. Also, please rest assured of our best vigilance to maintain pricing parity checks (date, room category, time of booking, condition, etc.) to avoid any misunderstanding of our offers.

May I seize this opportunity to thank you to having taken the time to bring this matter to our attention, as your comments are important to us.

We are looking forward to be in contact with you again for making the arrangement for your next visit to Brussels.

Yours Sincerely,

Perfect location close to Grand Place and Grand Centraal. The rooms are clean, and the hotel staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is quite expensive, but very tasteful. Really enjoyed the atmosphere, and the hotel is suitable for both business and pleasure (there seemed to be both types). Not recommended when travelling with children, but perfect for a couples-weekend.

I booked this hotel through an online 'secret hotels' deal and it was advertised as a 5* and judging by the reception area it certainly seemed to fit the bill, however the rooms were definitely not 5 star quality. Nothing major wrong, some bulbs not working, poor pillows (only tiny one each) bathroom door not reaching the bottom of door frame, wobbly toilet bowl and shower going from hot to cold. On the other hand great location! Literally 5 mins from Central station (with a direct train to the airport) and around the corner from the Grand Place.

Only 200 meters far from the Centraal railway station, only 5 minutes walk to reach Grand Place, it's for sure in a lucky position, but it's not a five stars for sure; our room was clean, spacious and quiet, but 5.50€ for 33cl of bottled water is a real robbery!! The staff is nice, and wifi worked very well. There's a casino just in front of the hotel if you are interested in, even if it seemed to be decadent... We haven't tried breakfast because it was too expensive (30€!!!), maybe because it was new year's eve, and we discovered that there's a nightclub (Duke's) well known in Bruxelles.

This hotel has really seen better days. The rooms are old and old fashioned as well as small. The restaurant is quite nice though for a hotel restaurant. There are better hotels in Brussels though. It definitely does not deserve 5 stars.
