“full of olde world charm”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

this is truely a grand hotel with all the quirks and charm of a big, well kept, tradional hotel - huge high ceilings and art nouveau deco. Of course the plumbing and the other techno installations reflect the old building, but really well done and managed so well. Breakfast is good, and the internet connection free. The lift is original 1920 or even earlier! Take a look even if only for a coffee.

We stayed at the Hotel Metropole in late October 2012 and we really enjoyed our stay.
The hotel is good old fashioned quality and service. We had a room on the fifth floor overlooking the main road at the front of the hotel which also had a small balcony. The room was large and comfortable with a large bed which we found very comfortable. The mini bar was a bonus with a few free drinks which were replaced each day.
Breakfast was very nice, with a good selection of different foods which even included scrambled egg, baked beans, sausages, bacon and mushrooms...lovely. there was certainly something there for everyone.
All of the staff were very polite and extremely helpful, I couldn't really fault this hotel.
One of the things that we really enjoyed was the old fashioned lift, great. It can be a bit dodgy at times and gets stuck every now and then but that's all part of its charm.
It is ideally situated with everything easily accessible from the hotel and the Metro is right outside.
I would definitely recommend the Hotel Metropole.

Stayed three nights and in spite of not being a strong suporter of this type of hotel, really enjoyed it. The staff was very helpful and always available. The rooms are big and spacious as well as the king size bed.
Definitely will come back

Entering this hotel is like stepping into another time. The entrance and reception area as well as the halls are magnificent and beautiful. However, the room felt a bit old and rusty. Mostly because the furniture was a bit worn down and was in need of replacement. Other than that, the place is really good with a nice breakfast buffet and of course in a good location, right at Place De Brouckere.

I would advise anyone to visit the reception area, the café, the restaurant--really lovely architecture, a perfect example of bygone European hotel elegance. However, the 19th century elevator is charming the first time, then gets really annoying thereafter. Our room was very large, in keeping with the age of the building, decorated in a rather old-fashioned style, the bathroom was smaller with tired marble on the walls and floors, there was a very unpleasant odor coming from the bathroom drain. Vacuum cleaning outside the door at 8 am., doors banging down the hall. Service was minimal, although polite. Breakfast was good but noisy with an abundance of waiters going in every direction, orders were delayed, an extra expresso forgotten. This is a hotel surfing on its past and really needs a major make-over.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the street, even very high, do get the noise in the morning.

We had a lovely three night stay here after being in the Sofitel Europe on business. The Metropole is stunning, beautiful and well maintained. All of our requests were met by helpful staff, and coffee on the terrace in the evening was a joy. We would definitely stay here if back in Brussels.

We stayed at the Metropole in Brussels for three nights. This is the most elegant hotel I have ever stayed in. Very well kept up, gracious staff, beautiful architecture. A chandelier in the room! Beautiful bathroom, Comfortable bed, nice linens. The expansive breakfast buffet was included in our rate.
The location was not quite as nice. Not terrible, just kind of noisy, especially when people are leaving the bars and casinos late in the evening. We like fresh air at night but had to close the windows. There are elevators, but the main lobby one is one of those cool, antique type that don't work very quickly. Many people used the stairs.
The Metropole is close enough to walk to many of the attractions and the area of hundreds (really, no exaggeration) of restaurants. It is a memorable hotel, good value for the luxury, and I hope to go back.
