For a city the size of Brussels, it can be a surprisingly big challenge to find a decent cup of coffee. Ordinary filter coffees and hastily espressos can be found here and there, but if you're looking for GOOD coffee, look no further than Aksum Coffee House, located near the city centre (15 min walk from Grand Place) on a street filled with antiquity shops. Aksum import and roast their coffees themselves, and what's great is that the coffee beans are organically grown and of single origin.
On location, I tasted a couple of espressos, and ended up buying two bags of beans to take with me home. The on-duty barista, My, was helpful and friendly, and explained the differences and nuances of the beans well. I can highly recommend the Kebado Dara and Limu beans, which I use as the espresso base to make cappuccinos at home. The prices are very competitive as well, no unnecessary middle men to grab profits between the farmer, the seller and the customer either. The coffee house itself has a good atmosphere and relaxed feeling - perfect for downing the absolutely delicious coffee they serve. Highly recommended!
