If you're in Brussels then the chances are you will go to see the Atomium.

From the outside, it is very impressive and there are plenty of photo opportunities by the structure and welcome sign.

The views are good from the top, but there aren't that many landmarks to look out for in Brussels anyway! Would have been good to have some signs up at the different windows to point out areas of interest.

As you travel between the different areas there are exhibitions; some have photos and models of the '58 Expo which were good, but would have liked to have seen more on the engineering of the Atomium. Exhibitions in the other rooms were not as interesting; random peices of information and design muddled together. One room had a Veolia rubbish bin shaped like a rabbit, apparantly it is a winning design?

Overall worth going to look at from the outside, but may be worth checking what exhibitions are on before paying to go in.

Firstly, just one lady selling tickets (there was supposed to be a man too but he kept walking off) resulting in an ENORMOUS queue in the ticket building, 45 minute wait there. Then another queue in the bottom of the Atomium itself, didn't look too long, but moves so dreadfully slowly due to the small lift, so another hour wait there. Not helped by the fact that multiple Atomium staff kept going up and down in the lift, 2 or 3 of them every time obviously reduces its capacity for paying guests. Strange queue management, with another Atomium staff member regularly making people squash further forward in the queue area but all she was achieving with this was letting groups of people bypass parts of the queue, totally unfair (and I'm not even talking about the restaurant guests that get to bypass the queue entirely). Another problem is that you only get one guidebook per group, even though the ticket price is per person, so here's a tip, all pay separately so as to avoid this nonsense and get a guidebook each. As for the view, it's good, but just not worth the cost and the bad queuing experience. Just go check it out from outside. Advice for the management: I understand that you cannot change the building or the size of the lift but as things are you are wasted 1h45 of my valuable tourist time in really badly managed queues. Either sell timed tickets so tourists can make better use of their time in Brussels, or simply be honest with visitors about how long the queueing is going to take so they can make a good decision to visit the top or not. And sort out the silly guidebook nonsense and so many staff taking up valuable places in the lift!

Dear Simon,

We are sorry to read that you spent most of your time queuing, but this is almost unavoidable on a Saturday or Sunday. Indeed, more than 6 years after its reopening in February 2006, the Atomium still gets many visitors during the weekends, and as we only have one lift going to the upper sphere, waiting times going from 20 minutes to sometimes one hour are unfortunately common. Therefore we propose a guidebook to pass the time in an enjoyable way in front of the lift. This guidebook is also available in pdf from our website.
Regarding the other queue at the cash desk: we are working on a new system, but this will take some time seen the structure of the building. The colleagues at the cash desk habitually inform about the waiting time for the lift, but maybe this information was not mentioned to you.
Last but not least: it is not usual that several staff members are taking the lift together, and we will make sure that this will not happen again.
But they do change their working post every hour so it's normal that they take the lift to quickly change from one post to another.

However we do take your comments very seriously and we do everything to improve the visitor's experience. Very sorry again you did not like your visit.

Best regards,
Inge Van Eycken

It's quite expensive for what it is but definitely worth a visit as there's nothing else quite like it. You take an elevator straight to the top where you can enjoy the view and eat or just have a beer. We thought we'd have something to eat but the menu was extortionate so we just had a beer instead. A bit overpriced but it is a unique structure and worth visiting.

This is huge and awesome thing to watch to watch from outside. But it doesn't worth it to go up.

First of all, you have to wait 30 minutes line for so called "fastest" elevator in Europe. This is so slow, and you don't even feel it. It's very boring up there.

But it's quit emressive to walk around

Hit this world famous landmark at dusk and went up at night. It truly is amazing. Everyone who worked there was super cool. i'll certainly be going back during the day next year.
