Owner description: Considered one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Europe, the ornate Grand Place is the center of Brussels, where many historic buildings dating from the 17th century are located.

Built in a neo-classical Italianate style you could believe that this square was in Rome or Naples. It is stunning architecture that to my mind is best enjoyed at night, as it is illuminated magnificently.

Larger than life. Pure history. Nice food and drinks. Very clean. A must visit. Best attraction in Brussels.

You can't visit Brussels without going here. On a world scale its not the finest but it is the heart of the city. If you have time do have a coffee or a drink outdoors here. It is a little bit more expensive than elsewhere in Brussels but this is Grand Place not elsewhere

Apart from the size that it's name implises, the Grand Place is grand on many things, Grand on history and tradition, grand on beer-hauses, grand on visitors (many - many Europeans, logical if you come to thing that you're in the capital of EU, and tourists from all over the globe), grand on stores selling local handcrafted lace and embroideries but what mostly got me.... grand on chocolate stores!

Do visit the chocolate stores on and around the Grand Place for the most amazing truffles, chocolate bars, waffles, biscuits, ...... all kinds of treats. Don't skip the amazing fresh strawberries of Godiva, dipped in chocolate and offered in a cone or the cocoa powder of Neuhaus for the most fullfilling cholotate drink.

After the choco-overdose, do go to "Le Roy d'Espagne" to wash down the sweet taste with amazing beer, but I'll come to that in another review.

Then go at the corner of Rue Charles Buls and touch the statue of the sleeping lady against the wall for good luck (if you've had more than a litre of fine belgian beer it won't sound so strange)
Enjoy!!!

I've been here as a child, so not so many memories from those times. But visiting this square last weekend, it was smaller than i thought. The ground is bad, so don't go in high heels. We passed on our way to hotel and it started to rain, so we stopped at one bar to have a drink. There are lots, don't know how the food is. The next morning it was raining, and we got out of the place we had breakfast at just when it stopped to rain - the square was empty, and then I liked it more. It does feel very elegant there, with the golden details on buildings around. And then you get right back from this special feeling after seeing cars driving there...
