“Closed!”
Reviewed November 27, 2013

We went back to this bar this trip as we have enjoyed visiting there before - It's closed!! Such a shame as it had a good atmosphere and when it was brewing it's own beer, it was excellent. We hope it will open again soon. The one "spot" terrible rating is only because you can't give a no rating on trip advisor!

“Fantastic Flemish Stew”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

This place looks like a tourist trap, but the food was surprisingly good. We stopped off here on a Sunday when it was very quiet, and had virtually the whole place to ourselves. There is no view of the Grand Place and no outdoor seating, so it's easy to overlook. The waiter was very attentive and polite. I ordered the Flemish stew with chips and was amazed at the quality. I had a huge bowl of stew, full of huge chunks of tender beef with a separate bowl of lovely hot chips. The chips were very good. The stew was tasty, lots of delicious gravy, and so generous a serving that it was almost too much for me to finish. I was amazed at the quality. My partner had the Stoemp and it was also incredibly good. Very good quality sausage with very well made mash potatoes and wonderful gravy. We finished with chocolate fondant that was delightful. I was astonished to read the negative reviews on here because we found the food and service to be really excellent.

“Great home brew selection.”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

Although we didn't sample the food, I had a lovely hot chocolate and my husband had a selection of four home brews which were wonderfully presented. The staff were also very friendly, even bringing some chocolates for our 17 month old daughter. I imagine that this would be a lovely place to visit in the evening when there is live local music.

“Go here for the music”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

Read the reviews. So some folks had a bad experience. Unfortunate, but pretty well the norm in most cities and establishments on occasion. You don't go here for the food - it's a bar, after all - or for home-grown brews - the tanks are now mere props. Go here for the live music on the weekends. It used to feature live music every night, a rarity in most places I've traveled, but alas, if you catch David Caggiari on any night that he's playing (often with colleagues from the local music scene, musicians hailing from countries around the world, or members of his new band, Age of Giants), you are in for a treat and a fun night. But catch him soon. Age of Giants is "on the verge," with a new album finished, music videos being shot, and road tours on the horizon.

“Terrible service and food - Tourist trap!”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

We don't usually write tripadvisor reviews, but after visiting this absolute hell hole we felt the need to. We started off faced with a rude bar attendant who practically ignored us for 10 minutes. Then, we ordered two cones of chips (not difficult to make). They arrived after 40 Minutes cold and were slapped down on our table by a rude waiter. We complained and a waitress took the chips away and then after 40 more minutes and still waiting for chips we complained to be refunded. This is definitely a tourist trap and is not a real Belgian brewery. Venture off the grand place into the backstreets to find a real one!
