Magritte’s museum – one of the collection of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts is a gem. It is organised on 3 levels. We hired an audio guide, which gives you additional information about Magritte’s life and commentaries to the paintings. It was a pleasure to see so many of his paintings in the same place.
On the ground floor they show a 45-50 mins film about Magritte – definitely worth spending the time. Museum's shop is worth visiting as well.
We have complemented our tour with a next day visit to Rene Magritte’s house-museum in rue Esseghem.

The Magritte Museum is one of the best art collections I have visited.
It is located in the heart of Brussels, easy to attend.
The collection has numerous, very beautiful pieces of this unique Belgian artist.
It is absolutely worth a visit!

This Museum has done Magritte proud. His art is delightful and contemplative and the display has emphasized all aspects of his output. It is arranged in chronological order in three floors. All art is displayed on black walls but it is well lit and there are sufficient explanatory texts to introduce the artist to the visitor. I recommend it to all art lovers.

Having negotiated the buying of the ticket and poor sign posting (tickets are bought in the next door museum and you enter via a tunnel) I then tried to put my handbag in the lockers for which you need a two euro coin (they don't warn you when you buy the ticket) I eventually found a locker that worked.

The collection itself is three small dark floors of paintings. I had hoped that seeing the works themselves would add more than seeing the reproductions. Sadly the well known works are not in the collection. The works that are there are rather two dimensional and have more in common with a one joke art school show rather than a mature body of work. Having gone with no preconceived ideas I left disappointed and suggest a trip to Exki for the flourless chocolate cake is a more enlightening experience.
