I stayed in Le Vaudeville for three nights as part of an extended break to Bruges and Brussels. The location of Le Vaudeville appealed most and I was not disappointed. Based inside Galerie de la Reine, the B&B is a 5 minute walk from the Grand Place and the central train station. It was a perfect location from which to explore the Belgian capital.
The positives were the aforementioned location and the stylish rooms. Upon our welcome, we were upgraded to the Diva room as we were warned about a party taking place at the private hire Theatre de Vaudeville next door which was set to be very noisy. The room was smart and clean, with a roll top bath, massive shower and a welcoming present of chocolate. The free drinks – including Belgian beers – in the Smeg fridge were also a very welcome bonus!
That said, there were downsides which are worth mentioning. The bed in the room was not particularly comfortable and, being so central, the noise from the Galerie would certainly annoy a light sleeper – the noise of the party did reach us in the end as well! The room had the tendency to get incredibly warm too as the Galerie that surrounds it acts like a greenhouse. Whilst it was fine for our visit because it was quite cool and rainy, a visit in the height of summer might be too much. The breakfasts were good and plentiful – the highlight being the artisan preserves on offer, but the fact that cooking anything like bacon or eggs was do-it-yourself left us a bit self-conscious. The electric hobs took an age to warm up too so cooking in the end really wasn’t worth it. Getting hold of the owners who didn’t speak much English, Thiery and Christophe, was always a bit tricky – even for things like toilet paper - too so make sure your mobile works abroad if you visit and practice your French!
Overall, I enjoyed my visit. The location is perfect and there’s plenty to like about Le Vaudeville. Having someone on hand a bit more often would probably have bumped this review up a notch.
