“Great food, service and atmosphere.”

A hidden gem away from the very pushy tourist spots. We had steak, shrimp, clams, chicken tarragon and whole roasted fish. Simply fabulous!! Recommend by hotel welcome.

“Brought a group of visitors, and felt ashamed.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2012 via mobile

Brought in a group of 24 us tourists for a mussels or steak dinner, with reservation and specific menu requested, and got seriously disappointed. Bad mussels, overcooked steak, deep frozen fries, ... I must say I've eaten much much better at a far better price.

“Good steak, bad mussels!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2012

La Boussole (The Compass) was recommended by our hotel owner. The greek owner is welcoming and serves all the classic brussels foods. The BBB beef (Bleu Blanc Belge) was grilled as requested (Rear Blue) and the chips were good. Unhappily the large zeeland mussels were dry and overcooked swimming in over watered broth (you should never put ater to cook mussels: only their own juice shoud make the broth!). Smiling waitresses, usual belgian beer, all togtehr it does not justify going out to restaurant: we eat better at home! Then, it is always overpriced, isn't it? Unless you, your wife and all your friends have decided for a grilled beef steak, forget it!

“Great little place on St. Catherine's”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2012

There are great clusters of restaurants in the Old Downtown area. For some reason I would stroll around the Grand Place and the Sablon area but always return to this Square for dinner. Quiet atmosphere with friendly owner and staff. I was solo and made to feel welcome. Had one of the 'Suggestions' the 1 Kilo of Mussels with frites. It was a large portion, tasty and fresh. Had a bottle, yes an entire bottle, of a middle of the road French Merlot which was priced lower than the same 500ml portion - either I figured it out or others haven't as yet?

All in all a good evening made more so by the attentive staff. Great walking area for afterwards to digest.

“Average restaurant...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2012

I admit the service was friendly and nice, but apart from that the food and restaurant was really average. There are so many better restaurants in Brussels so I wouldn't recommend this one!
