“Great location & staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2011

This hotel is very ideally located-within walking distance of every major square and sight in Brussels. We only had one short day in Brussels, and the man at reception quickly pulled out a map and highlighted a route for us that would take us from the hotel to everything worth seeing within that short day. The room was very clean, breakfast was good, fresh and hearty, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I think this was the best budget hotel we stayed in during our travels. There are quite a few flights of stairs to navigate if your room is on the upper floors, but other than that we found no drawbacks.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in May 2011. We arrived in Bruxelles via Paris on the TGV. Getting to the hotel was easy since the train & metro system are connected; we took the metro to the Ste-Catherine station and the Hotel Les Ecrins in about 1 block or so away from the metro stop. If you arrive in the city at rush hour, the metro tends to be full so be patient! The hotel staff are very friendly and know the city quite well. We stayed in a room located next door (owned by the hotel). The room was very small, however, very modern. It had been completely renovated, nice bed with excellent linen and pillows! Flat screen TV, Wi-Fi and a nice little view of the rear court yard. At first you feel cramped as the bed takes up most of the room but after a while you get used to the smaller space. We were able to store our travel bags under the bed. The wash room in this room was situated directly as you walk into the room...meaning, you walk through the wash room to access the room. Kind of weird, but it works. The breakfasts are simple, pastries, bread, coffee or tea. The location is excellent, just off of the down town core in a residential area. We would definitely stay there again.

This small hotel is extremely well located within easy walking distance of central Brussels and easily accessible by the underground. The hosts are very friendly and happy to help with any inquiries we had especially recommendations for dinner.

We had a room with a bathroom it was on the small side but the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet (at least until 6am when the early morning flights started going very close overhead!).

To reiterate the advice of others though - do not contemplate staying here if you have a heavy bag and are not able or prepared to carry it up as many as 5 flights of stairs. Otherwise highly recommended.

Although our room was clean, this place is not deserving of the ratings that it has received. The "staff" seemed to consist of one person, and it always seemed that we were a burden to him. Not friendly, not helpful, and the location is not the greatest.
I would not recommend this place to friends or colleagues.

I stayed here for two nights in August. I chose the hotel based on the rating I'm tripadvisor. However , I wonder why this hotel (more like a B&B) got such a high rating. The place is so hard to find. It's hidden somewhere in the alley. The "hotel" has only one staff who is sitting all the time at the front desk. No kitchen or restaurant. The room itself is ok for 85 euro/night ,although I was expecting more . Overall, it s really overrated.

I stayed here for a few nights and found that while the room was small, it was well appointed, clean and comfortale. The bed was very comfortable. The owner was very nice and helped me contact the right people to recover my luggage that was left on the train. Breakfast was good, with fresh pastries, coffee, tea and juice. There is a small collection of travel books in the lobby which you can borrow for the day which really helped me. The location is good, in Ste. Catharine and a block away from the St. Catherine metro stop. St. Catherine is also known for its seafood restaurants. And the residence is a block from another beautiful cathedral. This neighborhood residence made me feel more like a local than if I stayed in a big hotel. If you stay here take the metro to St. Catherine, when you come out of the metro stop walk towards the big fountain, and on your right you will see the Rue du Rouleau. (It took me a while to figure this out!). My room was with a bathroom which was small but worked well, was clean and nice to have. I would highly recommend this lodging to others. Oh, and there is free wi-fi...just ask the front desk for the password.
