“Very fresh..... ”
Reviewed September 14, 2013 via mobile

The seafood was very fresh, reasonably price and taste very good. The only disappointment is no sitting and very crowded. You cant really take your time to enjoy your food and have to rush finish it. I wouldnt mind to pay a little more per dish to have a more comfortable sitting environment.

“Downtown Brussels and the weather is good?”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

Want a quick lunch? Or hang around all afternoon (they close around six in the afternoon)? Off to the Noordzee. A fish shop turned extended street standup restaurant, the atmosphere can be fantastic, with foreign tourists and habitués mingling. Oh, it might be a bit of a shout to place your order with the dispensing multilingual "garçon", and you have to eat standing up, but that's the style of the place, a bit like a Barcelona tapas bar, out in the street. The food is ...fish... served in smaller portions, excellent with one of the inexpensive South-American dry whites. Fun, you might start up a conversation with an Italian couple, or feel great with your wife...

“The Crowds Are Right!”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

Quite simply, this was one of the best seafood restaurants I've ever visited. The open air "lunch counter" concept with stand-up sidewalk tables works perfectly for the large, mostly local crowds that gather here each day. Service is prompt and friendly, and the seafood is extraordinary. Our group enjoyed moules (best ever), sole (delicicious), and garlic marinated shrimp (awesome). We were tempted to try some of the other offerings, but reluctantly decided to wait until our next visit to Brussels. It'll give us something to look forward to.

“Fish on the go”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

Don't go here if you want a table, or want to relax for a bit. This is a fishmonger's, so to speak, with a few stand-up and eat tables on the pavement where you get amazingly fresh seafood - absolutely superb! You place your order at the counter, pay up, and they shout your name when it's ready. Boy,is it worth it! Cheap, cheerful, and in a city where seafood is of an exactingly high standard, it is worth a visit. We had calamari, shrimp and fish - small plates, and very fresh and no fuss.

“What a fun lunch”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

We made a point of visiting Mer du Nord for lunch. What a thriving business. I wouldn't call it a restaurant or "street food"- sort of something in between.
My wife had the kibbling. Different tasting than kibbling we get here in Holland, but none the less very tasty with a sauce and small severing of salad. I really wanted to try the crab hamburger, but on this day they had no crab, so I had the ink fish. It was fresh and crispy also with a sauce and small salad. A glass of wine for my wife and a beer for me. We sat on a bench in front of the St Catherine church.
