Other than their burgers, the rest of their menu is largely average. In fact, even the burgers (which i believe they pride themselves on?) are just ok, dare i say it, tasteless patties. It's not 'pricey' per say, but it's definitely over priced for what's presented. The interior is fantastic, a hummourus wall painting on Belgian history/ politics / practices is brilliantly original. Staff move at a snails pace and service/ food arrival wait time is always long. It was one of the first recommendations given to me when landing in Brussels, the office raved about it, but i have found better & cheaper eateries since.

We stayed at the Pillows hotel and looked online for something close and affordable to grab a quick dinner....we choose Houtsiplou because of the reviews and it was right across the street from our hotel. It was a great choice! Loved the inside, the food was good and very affordable and the staff was friendly. Would go back again!

Lived in a very nearby hotel (Sandton Pillows) and chose this place as I walked by based on the menu and looks of the interior (see pic). Very nice and easy going place; customers, personnel, interior and atmosphere. Sort of a trendy and hip place to go. Not for strict business dinners but when you want to be "on the loose side". Not romantic either in the old fashioned way, but no problem to go there with wife/girlfriend even if I would categorize it as a place to go to with your friends. I ordered a classic burger it was very good, easily in the top 10% of what I have had (and there are many). Again, service was friendly, easy-going and fast. I could easily go again.

This is a great, informal, little place. Good atmosphere and good food. We steak and chips and moule frites. The food was well cooked, generous and tasty. So good we went back another time. Staff were friendly.

After five days in Brussels, in our last day, we decided to have lunch at Houtsiplou. The restaurant is well located, just five minutes walking from the Grand Place. It has a big terrace where you can taste the delicious dishes. Houtsiplou is decorated in a colourful and funny style. The waitresses are very friendly and helpful. Talking about the food, most of the dishes are very healthy. That fact is very important if you get bored of eating frittes and fast food.

The burgers are perfectly cooked mixing excellent meat and a delicious wide range of vegetables. Always served with traditional bread. There is also a menu, in which you can order one soup as a starter and a main dish, like a burger or a big toast full of ingredients. The portions are generous.

Moreover, the price of the food is cheaper in comparision to other similar restaurants in Brussels. Roughly 13€ per person.
