Last weekend we visited Mechelen to visit Martin's Patershof. We loved the pictures on their site, a very original setting of the rooms, church-style. We booked a room "Best of home" and the room itself was charming. Let me start with the good part. Room was clean, had nice details, especially the stained glass windows. The bed was comfortable and there was a jacuzzi in the bathtub (which was too wild to read a magazine). The breakfast was good. Staff were helpful and friendly. Now the 2 bad things about my stay: First of all, a small thing but annoying, there was a teddybear waiting on our bed. My wife liked that idea so she was enthousiastic. Only seconds later to discover that there was a note attached : " I don't like to travel, if you like me you can buy one of my brothers in the hotellobby" How lame! You'll find the picture of this note in one of the photo's I made. But second of all, and this was not a small thing, they had a big party in the church main room right beneath our room. Since the church is acoustic and loud, we could hear every single note and bass. It started at about 20:30 and lasted until 2:30. No surprise that I complained about that and without going into details, it took me quite a lot of energy to get to to a satisfying compensation. But we got there and that is why I can be honest when recommending this hotel. Don't forget to ask in advance if they have any wild parties planned, it will save you from a sleepless night.

Geachte heer

The hotel met each and every one of my expectations. The combination of the historical elements with the clean, but warm interior design is magical. The service was good, one staff member in specific was excellent, but only temporary employed so we were sad to hear.
We stayed in a "Great" Room, which is a must for 3 reasons: The historical elements in your room (we had 2 decorative pillars in the room, 1 glass-in-lead window in the room and 1 in the bathroom), the jacuzzi in the bathroom and the truly, truly exquisite/luxurious bed.
The breakfast has everything you have in mind and countless types of breads and sandwich fillings. The atmosphere at the old altar is breathtaking.

Too bad the coffee you can make in the room (Rombout's Coffee Esspresso machine) is charged 3 €, but we can't let something small like that set the tone for this review, can we? :-)

This hotel is very new (only 1 year old) and is mind-stunning from the moment you enter the lobby until the moment you check-out. Very nice mix between the building (former church) and modern interiour.
I still wonder how they could create and integrate the hotel functions in a church. My room was rather small, but very modern, comfortable (there was even a Nespresso - type coffee machine) and, more importantly, the old original glass windows from the church gave a unique atmosphere.
The beds were excellent and if I understand well, made by a local Belgian manufactureer.
Also the breakfast was complete with a wide choice.
Only minus was the parking garage : verry narrow and extreme small spaces. It is better to park the car in the parking garage from the Novotel which is located within walking distance.

Just a missing, imagine a design hotel inside a church... if the idea looks good, the result is perfect.
I passed a week end with my wife in this place, and everything was good, the room, the city, and the breakfast. if there is no restaurant inside, there is not a real probleme because there is a lot of in the city center (5 mn walking distance).
Highly recommanded.
