“Wow, wooden escalators!”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

Enter the old building left of the elavator and you'll see the very old wooden escalators. Go down and take the second one too.

“Excellent experience”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

First off a warning: even though this is not particularly claustrofobic I do know people who can get very uncomfortable in this tunnel. The tunnel under the river Schelde is one of the best free things one can do in Antwerp. The style of the tunnel is 30's and it's managed to really capture that charm. Because of echo's and the depth of the tunnel, this is wonderfull for children. Plus, it also gives a great view of the city (the left bank of the city is mainly residential so there's little reason for tourists to start there).

“Very special walk (or bike)”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

This is a tunnel under the Schelde, so it is a bit of a walk, but it's a marvel of white tiles and '30 years architecture. The elevators are still original ! Enjoy the left bank and the view of the city. You can always return with the tram just next to the entrance on the left bank.

“Nice walk”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

Always nice to take a walk trough this tunnel when strolling down Hoogstraat and Kloosterstraat on a Sunday.
This pedestrian tunnel has 80 years old wooden escalators and takes you to the left bank of the river Scheldt where you can enjoy the view over Antwerp and have a Belgian fried Snack.
Otherwise not much to see there, it's just a nice walk, a nice view and a snack. :)

“Great little diversion.”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

Always love walking tunnels under rivers and this old gem well worth the little diversion. TIP catch the tram one stop to the other side of the river from the City and as you come out head to the river and the isolated building which is the entrance. Just enjoy the olde world escalators and tiling as you stroll under the river back to the City. Also forget all about interactive gimmicks and the like and just smile as kids take in the joy of yelling and shouting and making echos in the tunnel, simple simple lovely fun. Made me smile. Then up the other side to enjoy the rest of the City.
