“entrance fee”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

We were quite surprised by the fact that an entrance fee of 5 euro was to be paid to visit the church. We felt this was to expensive so we decided against it. Apparently the curio shop is quite important for our Christian brothers, which left us with a feeling that the whole cathedral was too commercial. The building is under restoration so we did had a little bit of a problem to find the entrance.

“Ho hum, another gorgeous cathedral in Belgium!”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

On our trip to Belgium, Antwerp was the third city we visited, after Bruges and Ghent. So we were rather "churched-out" by the time we got to the Our Lady Cathedral. Nevertheless, it is undoubtedly gorgeous. And the recent events, which see the Antwerp Fine Arts Museum returning many works to the cathedral, where they originally hung anyway, is a great development. Every pillar and the side aisles as well are adorned by amazing triptyches by Rubens and other early Baroque Flemish painters. Not a bad way to make an already glorious building even more glorious!

“Go to Linkeroever!”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

I never go in but the outside is very good! The most beautiful is when it's dark! tip: go to linkeroever ( the other side of the river ) There you have a beautiful view to the cathedral! YOu can come there by metro or you can walk under the water ( voetgangerstunnel )

“Fantastic art collection”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

The church is beautiful, but doesn't stand out from many of the others you'll see. It's real attraction is the impressive art collection, which is easy to navigate with the handy written guides they provide. There are a number of Rubens among the dozens of paintings.
