“So many different areas”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

It is different to say that you have done the port as it goes on for miles up towards the sea. However, the main part is around the Mas Museum, where there are lots of boats moored, including the beautiful Marjorie - a three masted schooner - unless she is out on a cruise. There is some work going on to tart up the area but the traffic around is not too bad and it should be finished soon. There are lots of bars and cafes around and it is just a stone's throw from the old town, so a nice walk. The view from the Mas museum is spectacular!

“Huge and impressive place.”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

We visited the harbor with two couples.
Because of time constraints we could not take a boat and we drove with the intention to see the succession of locks on the right bank, they have grown bigger and bigger by the years.
We started with the tiny ones at Willem- and Kattenwijkdok, then seeing to the pair at Van Cauwelaert to end at the massive Berendrecht lock.
We were lucky that a very large container ship lay at the quay, impressive although not a super big one. We also realized how large the petrochemical complex is.
We shall come back when we have more time and then also go to the left bank.
Apparently the Port Authority organizes tours.

“Trip round the port”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

Just happened to see that there was a 2 1/2 hour trip round the port available: some uncertainty over where the tickets were being sold from but so glad we persevered: it was fascinating. Spacious boat, with drinks available. Descriptions in 4 languages, including English, but also a useful sheet available telling us what was coming up. Would certainly recommend this trip: even then we only saw a fraction of the available docks.

“Nice trip around the harbour”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

We booked the small harbour trip which lasted about two hours and cost 11 Euro. You start near the MAS and have to pass some bridges before you enter the harbour area. The audio presentation on board is in Flamish which is a pity. But you can sit and watch and just enjoy the trip. Very interesting and worth a visit. The harbour is bigger than you expect.
