“Perfect location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2014

Really nice 'boutique' style hotel on the doorstep of the Grote Markt. Very friendly staff and nice rooms with well-needed aircon. The bed was a little bouncy but not a real problem. Nice hot and cold breakfast too. A good experience for us.

My mother and I stayed here together for three nights in May 2014, a joint birthday celebration. The hotel is serene and tranquil despite the very central location a few blocks from Grote Markt, the decor in public rooms as well as in our room attractive and tasteful (but not insufferably hip like many small Antwerp hotels), and we loved having a small terrace off our room to enjoy the surprise sunshine. The room was quite large by European standards. Breakfast, served buffet style, is more than adequate (and convenient, since there is no super-slow waiter service), and the staff at the hotel was gracious and helpful. All around, a superb stay. I'd recommend this hotel to tourists and business travelers alike, and I believe there are also several family rooms.

Room Tip: The room we had, a superior double with terrace, was spacious and quiet, overlooking the back of the...

We arrived at Antwerp station in the pouring rain so got a reasonably priced taxi at 12 euros to Rubens Hotel. The outside of the hotel looked great and the foyer was really impressive with some impressive model yachts and attractive furnishings. The guy on reception was really friendly, spoke perfect English and offered us free chocolates! Ideal for us as we were here chocolate shopping (and seeing Arcade Fire at the SportPaleis) We had brought the wrong credit card compared to what we booked with, but the receptionist sorted this out without any fuss. Our room was clean, quite large with a huge 7x7foot bed! Chocolates in the room too! Nice bathroom, lovely power shower which we'd have loved to have brought home. Breakfast was included in the price and was perfection. Cereals, yoghurst, fried breakfast, massive selection of fresh fruit, cheeses and hams, bread, croissants, tea. What else could one want? I'd have to say the sausages, bacon, scrambled egg and pancakes were a great start to every day, especially as we walked many miles over 3 days. The gardens at the back were beautiful and you can even sit out there and eat your breakfast. Grote Markt was only 2 minutes walk and even the station only took us 20 minutes. We visited all the attractions and most of the chocolate shops. Lovely hot weather too. Great holiday, superb hotel in a fantastic location. Would recommend to anyone. Almost forgot - the air conditioning was so appreciated in hot weather. One suggestion for improvement - and I'd suggest this to most hotels - Reduce the price of the mini bar stuff. Make a decent profit, but not too much as people don't use it then. Then you'll sell loads more from the mini bar and increase your profits!!

Room Tip: We saw a few open rooms when cleaners were in and all looked immaculate.

Dear Guests,

I only have one thing to ask.......please DO come back and let me thank you in person for this wonderful review............

About minibar prices, most hotels our price range (yes in euros it seems a lot more expensive, not in usd sorry.....) we are really not more expensive than all the others, most hotels don't even bother with minibars still since they have a lot of theft .........and the extra work at the super exagerated european labour cost...

Thank you for taking the time to write this review.

Kind regards
the management

My husband and I stayed 3 nights in Antwerp last week. Those who worked at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and clean. The hotel has a lovely courtyard where we could sit and relax, as well as a room with a TV near the lobby (some were watching sports). Good variety of food for breakfast. We were very close to Grote Markt where the tourist center is located. It is a beautiful square with lots of places to eat. We could easily walk to see the sights as well as catch the tram. This was a perfect place for us to stay for our first trip to Antwerp.

Sometimes hotels just get it right: Good location, nice building, refurbished hotel, good staff, good rooms, clean, good breakfast, a welcome drink, parking close by at reasonable price. Was very impressed and the hotel made a very pleasant impression.

the room was a bit small, but relatively clean. staff is good, we had no problems at all. comfortable beds. free drinks and snacks at the lobby with free Wi-Fi. they also have a nice open area where you can sit and enjoy the free drinks.

The first day there was some funky smell coming from outside, but the next day it was fine. the location of the hotel was not bad either. Its not the best, but I liked it.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel. We had never been to Antwerp and wanted a central location. The location is excellent, close to everything yet on a quiet block. We had a first floor room with private terrace - very nice but for security you would need to keep the French doors shut at night. The room was small but nicely furnished and luxurious. The bathroom was also small but very clean and modern. A separate toilet was a nice touch. The staff was very helpful and Joachim kindly offered us a glass of port when checking in. The breakfast buffet was delicious and abundant. Also snacks are offered in the afternoon. Checkout is noon which was convenient and they arranged for a cab to take us to the train station. Antwerp is a very interesting city and we would like to return - and stay here again.
