“Good find in an expensive city”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

This was one of the lower priced hotels I could find in Antwerp but still included breakfast which turned out to be one of the better hotel breakfasts i'd had in a long time - eggs, bacon, sausages, pastries, cereal, meats, cheese, toast, a variety of juices, tea, coffee and a selection of chopped fruit with yoghurt. The receptionist was helpful and friendly. There's a seating area in the lobby and they sell cans of beer etc from a fridge but there's no bar. The rooms are ever so slightly dated but are comfortable and the wifi was free (up to a certain speed, which was good enough for me, after which you need to pay) and at a good strength. The room had a TV, kettle and tea/coffee etc. It's a 10 minute walk to the station, 2 minutes from the 3 main diamond district streets and a 10-15 minute walk to the main shopping street. There's a Carrefour Express at the end of the street and a park very nearby for those who want to go for a morning jog.

Stayed here for one night, room was ok, everything was as advertised. Food in the morning was sufficient, not worth paying the 15 euros for though - if you hadn't already pre-bought. Location was very good, 10 minute walk away from centre and so was very good for a walk home after a night out.

Dear guest,

Thank you for taking your time to share your impressions after your stay in our hotel. We are pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay. The price which you mentioned for the breakfast is only for non- hotel guests, as the room rate in Astoria Hotel always includes the breakfast. We hope to welcome you again in the future.

Great location within walking distance to center and train station. The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good with fresh croissants and an excellent choice of other items. The price was right. great value for the price. Parking in hotel was expensive but they guided us to public parking 10 mins away @ 7 euro per day!

We stayed at the Astoria Hotel for 3 nights. It was comparable with the standard of a PremierInn in the UK; clean, comfortable and with an excellent buffet breakfast. The Astoria 's a 5 minute walk from Antwerp Central and and a 5-10 minute walk into the Shopping District, which leads nicely into the old town. Previous reviews have commented on it being in a dodgy street but frankly it didn't look any different to many of the hotel locations in London! There's a nice park at the end of the road and a Carrefour supermarket just around the corner for any nibbles, drinks and snacks during your stay. Be mindful tho that this supermarket shuts at 1930!

On our last day we were helped by Victoria on reception, who proved friendly and very knowledgeable. Generally the staff were friendly and polite.

The only negative was that the air conditioning didn't seem to be working, altho we didn't ask about it. It was as a result relatively warm in the room, but cooled down at night as you might expect.

Overall it was good value for money and I would definitely stay here again.

We don't know why we were charged 165 euros for one night in this hotel which claimed on Bookings.com to be a 4-star hotel. There was no porter to help us bring in our luggage. The car park costs 19 euros for the night and does not have a lift, so we had to park on the street in the neighbourhood. We mentioned that we'd rather be on a high floor but were put up on first floor. The fridge in the room was LOCKED, so we were unable to use it. We found the room to be rather on the small side. The soap container holder over the bath fell apart in our hands when we tried to use it. The door stop in the bathroom also rolled away at the slightest touch. There was no room service, although the breakfast buffet was quite adequate. We had no help on our way out either. Altogether, we didn't think this hotel deserved its rating and we certainly don't understand why we were charged such a hefty price.

Dear guest,
Thank you for sharing these comments. Astoria Hotel Antwerp has always been a 3 star hotel. We never claime to be a 4 star hotel, neighter on Booking.com. It’s also not common to have a porter, room service and minibar in 3 star hotels. We have a big fridge in the lobby with drinks and snacks for all our guests. There must be a misunderstanding. We are very sorry you expected a 4 star hotel. We have checked our system and found your reservation that was made for a stay during a very high occupancy city event (28/07). That’s when all the hotels increased their rates. Our competitor 3 star hotels were in the same rate category than us. 4 star hotels were of course much more expensive. We truly hope to welcome you again and please check our promotions on our website available all the year (except not during a city event like Tomorrowland this time) Kind regards, France De Zutter

we stayed here as a group of eight friends sharing four rooms to celebrate 40th birthdays! Paid £600 for two nights which works out at around £37.50 pppn. The proce inclided a welcome drink of quality Belgian beer and full breakfast.

The hotel was located about 5 mins walk from the city centre, the rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious if a little uninspiring. All rooms had en suite facility and the breakfast was mostly continental with bacon, beans, eggs and sausages also included. The sausages were a bit grim but the rest of the breakfast was fine, the continental included an array of hams and cheeses as well as pate, fruit and cereals.

The staff were attentive and helpful at all times and I would definitely recommend.

Stayed 1 night on cycle tour . Hotel is very close to main rail station on a fairly quiet road .
Rooms are comfortable with decent beds and a good size TV provided a small range of english channels.. Bathrooms were adequate with an acceptable shower over bath. Breakfast good with a decent range and plenty of space in breakfast room . Staff were friendly and very helpful eg finding me an open bike shop at 6 30 pm on a Friday night .Only down side is that the attractive old town and most sights are a good 15 min walk. This is however more than compensated by a very reasonable price Given the price this is a good option for staying in Antwerp
