Location= excellent. Directly across the square from beautiful Antwerp Central Train Station (the station you are most likely to come into if traveling from anywhere outside Antwerp).

The hotel is your standard Raddison, rooms are nice - and recently renovated. There are all the amenities, room service (ok), gym, pool, bar, etc. We found the rooms were cleaned well and everything seems to be looked after well. Cell phone service isn't great inside the rooms so if you need to make work conference calls I found it better to Skype or use a wifi connection.

Room Tip: If you want a view be sure to ask ahead of time

The good: Location, location, location. That is, if you like the zoo, the view of the station (which is a tourist attraction in itself), and access to mass transport. The staff. Even the busiest of the staff members was uniformly polite, friendly and helpful. The room and the bed were wonderful. Breakfast buffet was included in our room price, and was of good quality.

The not-so-bad: Okay... it's hard to explain. The location. Although things have improved over the years, it is near a train station and long-distance bus hub. So be prepared for travelers of all sorts, tourist-type shops and a large number of fast-food places and cheap cafe's catering to casual visitors. That's not "BAD" per se. Just setting expectations. This has nothing to do with the hotel. It's a good quality gem with a storied history set in a somewhat battered setting. :)

The odd: The pool is limited to 10 people and although very nice, is narrow. With 10 people in it, 9 are floating and 1 is swimming. This isn't a complaint. It's still a nice pool. The gym area is very nicely laid out, and there's a steam room and a sauna.

Room Tip: We like to stay up high, but the best view is facing the station and the zoo.

We stayed one night to visit the zoo. The hotel is fine, the rooms are reasonably sized. We had a bath and a shower, which was good. The restaurant didn't have a children's menu, which was an issue and the pool was very small. The bed was very comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. We didn't really like the immediate area around the hotel as it seemed quite run down and there were always groups of young people sat on the steps outside, which was off putting. Easy to get to the zoo accross the square and good breakfast with a nice view of the beautiful central station

As far as I recall this is my first stay at a Radisson and the walk across Astrid Square past the 'most beautiful train station in the world' heightened my expectations. It is perfectly located next door to both the amazing Antwerp zoo and the aforementioned Antwerpen-Centraal.
Unfortunately there isn't a direct train from the Antwerp Hotel so we got a taxi who dropped us off outside the station to save some time. This gave us the perfect opportunity to pop into what may well be the grandest train station in the world before checking in.

Room 632 faces the square at the front of the hotel and was a wonderful place to celebrate our anniversary this year. However, it has a connecting room and the door and/or walls must be pretty thin because we could hear their hairdryer early in the morning!

Amenities

Hairdryer
Tissue box

Safe
Plenty of sockets and 2 USB ports all in the right places
Access - 3 lifts that were quick and always seemed to be there

Food - we didn't eat anything in the restaurant or partake in any of the hotel-priced goodies in the mini-bar

Service - excellent throughout.

There was a queue when we arrived although concierge immediately took out cases to place on the trolly ready to take up. By the time we'd checked in we'd recovered from the heat outside and just grabbed them anyway as the lifts are just around the corner from reception.

We were missing soap when we arrived and it quickly arrived upon request. The next day more arrived with face cloths we didn't realise we were due.

Bizarrely we missed room service one day, possibly they came when we popped back for an hour in the afternoon and popped up the 'do not disturb' but it didn't matter. Towels dried pretty quickly in the bathroom - which wass needed as the temperatures soared to 35c during our stay and 3-4 showers per day were not uncommon! They bought up some requested coffee capsules and were uber helpful. It's rather wonderful that all communication is through an efficient website chat portal.
