The Leopold hotel is quite affordable for its location. It's situated near a large park at an approximately 15-20 minute walk from the city's centre. Our room - on the second floor - faced the park and it was nice and quiet as advertised. The facilities are basic (small and not very well ventilated bathroom, bath/shower combination, average sized flat screen TV, free though slow wifi connection, mini fridge, water cooker with tea bags and instant coffee) but pretty good value.
I did really like the different pillow styles (soft vs. firm) and the iPhone dock.

Can't comment on the breakfast or dinner menu because we enjoyed our meals elsewhere (as the hotel's vegetarian options were quite limited). The bar and lobby were well furnished and looked welcoming if you're inclined to spend some time there.

The hotel is in a convenient location and has a car park nearby (at a charge).
We received a warm welcome at Reception and our request for a quiet room (at the back of the hotel) was met.
Our room was comfortable and spacious and the bathroom had a bath and shower.
Information in the lift explained how busy the restaurant was at different times in the morning; although we ate at the second most busy time, it was not too crowded.
The self service buffet offered a good selection including cooked items.
A machine provided tea and coffee.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter.

Leopold Hotel, Antwerp
October 2013
I found this hotel to be comfortable and fairly well kept. The room is quite large – sort of normal US size – and the location is good – a ten minute walk from the central train station and a very nice park across the street. And, it is not expensive.
I got a room on the 2nd floor (the lobby is floor 0) and could use the stairway instead of the fairly small elevators. The 1st floor is a smoking floor. Yuck.
The restaurant/bar is attended by staff that have had little training and it is not very busy – there may be a connection here. Front desk people are helpful and friendly.
My largest problem was with the internet connection being quite slow. Ok for emails and such, but not for work. There is a higher speed available for 9 E for 24 hours. I should have done that. Standard is free.
Also, there is but one sheet on the bed. I think there should be two, a bottom sheet and one between you and the bedspread. But the housekeeper said no, they only have one sheet. Not sanitary in my book. The air conditioning fan is extreamly noisy - in room 208 anyway.
The front desk has a ten trip tram pass for 10 E and a large transit map. For walking into the central districts, I found it best to walk up to Hopland Street, about three blocks. This street takes you right into the main district and goes by a huge shopping mall with an excellent magazine shop.
There is a nice Jazz club at 28 Suikerrui, right near City Hall. It is small, but they have 400 different Belgian beers and a nice staff behind the bar. Good food too and the nightly special is a bargain. Music most nights at 8:30 or 9:00.

Room Tip: Facing the park would be nice.

Very helpful and friendly staff at reception allowed us to check in early. Bahar and Valerie also supplied knowledgable information about tram routes into the historic old city center. Our 5th floor park view room was cozy and worth the extra cost for upgrade. Gluten free bread was provided by the hotel for the extensive breakfast buffet. Wonderful location for arriving by train.

Room Tip: Park view rooms on upper floors are worth requesting in advance.

We spent 3 nights at the Leopold and were very happy with our room. Definitely worth getting the park view room. We did not have any noise issues at all as we were on a high enough floor. The room was very nicely decorated. It's a good sized room with comfortable seating to enjoy the view. Check in was very quick. We were offered a free drink which we enjoyed later in the evening. The hotel bar was very quiet at night but they had a good selection and friendly staff. The hotel is very convenient to the train station, less than 10 minute walk. It's also an easy walk to the main shopping street and many bars/restaurants. We also walked into the old center as well as the harbour areas within 30 minutes. Antwerp is a great city to explore on foot and this hotel was a great starting point!

Room Tip: Ask for high floor with a park view.

I travelled to Antwerp at short notice when a relative there fell seriously ill. I arrived late and tired and not expecting very much, having booked the hotel without giving the matter much thought. I could not have wished for a warmer welcome. The receptionist went out of her way to make me feel at ease and gave me a very nice room with view of the park. I assume the lower floors will have some traffic noise but mine was fine.
The bed was probably the most comfortable I have ever slept in.
The room was spacious and clean and I was very happy to find it had a kettle and a fridge. Wireless internet access in the room was free and very reliable.
Bathroom had a large bath and decent overhead shower.
I had a minor problem with my safe which was dealt with swiftly and efficiently.
Overall a highly recommended hotel. I won't hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: Park side lower floors maybhave some traffic noise.

Friendly and helpful staff at reception and at breakfast. Room was very good and a reasonable size, bathroom was good also. Aircon was noisy and didn't seem to work although it wasn't too hot outside so didn't cause a real problem. Breakfast was hot and cold buffet style and was good with plenty of choice and was regularly replenished. The floor 8 corridor had an unpleasant smell during the 4 day period we stayed. Pillow choice was great, and overall think this was a good value hotel. Location was okay near to the train station and restaurants but a 10/15 min walk to the centre.

Room Tip: Floor 8 corridor had an unpleasant smell

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments but also for your useful remark. I am happy to hear the reception and the breakfast lived up to your expectations. We however regret that you were not entirely satisfied with your stay. We are curently investigating the cause of the unpleasant smell on the 8th floor in order to stop these incidents in the future. Thank you again for your time and we hope that you will consider staying with us again.
